There is just no excuse for this! A border collie found frozen to the sidewalk Dec 5th 2008......
Obese dog survives frozen night; owner arrested
A border collie weighing more than 120 pounds survived being frozen to a sidewalk because he was insulated by layers of fat.
The Sheboygan County Humane Society says the "morbidly obese" dog froze to the sidewalk when he was left out overnight Wednesday in single-digit temperatures. Shelter manager Carey Payne says few dogs could survive that.
Sheboygan Police Lt. Tim Eirich says Jiffy's 59-year-old owner was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of animal neglect. She told police she tried to get the dog inside but couldn't, and instead checked on him every few hours.
Payne says shelter workers had to pour warm water over Jiffy's back end to unstick him from the sidewalk. She says it's too soon to say whether the elderly animal suffered any long-term effects.
Stories like that just make me so angry and people can do that to their pets. I sure hope he can pull through and get the love he deserves. How much pain that dog must have felt. Grrr!!!!!

I know what you mean. I get angry when I read stories about people not taking care of their pets or children. It even makes me more angry when they abuse them on purpose.
She told police she tried to get the dog inside but couldn't, and instead checked on him every few hours.
Not only does she admit fault by saying she knew something was wrong so she checked on him every few hours...she also shows how incredible insensitive she is by not GETTING HELP!
How can someone just 'check on the dog' when they could not get him in and could clearly see after a few 'checks' that he could not get up, to not call for some help???? Call the Police, the dog catcher, a neighbor, someone, anyone, to help. You don't let a poor animal lay freezing without doing something. Wow. How that makes me upset.

A year after a "morbidly obese" dog froze to a Wisconsin sidewalk, the border collie mix has lost 40 pounds and is slowly returning to an active lifestyle.
