Found this information on a collie breeder website, thought it would be good to share, some of these things I didn't know were toxic to dogs.



KILLERS IN YOUR GARDEN & HOME.

There are many plants found in the garden, which could prove lethal to dogs, especially puppies who chew every thing. Below is a list of those plants, with the effects they have if eaten, even in small quantities. This list does not represent all plants that may have a toxic effect on dogs there are many, many more. There is also no way of saying which plant a particular dog may just be allergic to and suffer a reaction to a greater or lesser degree.

Almond. Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea.

Aloe Vera. Diarrhea.

Apple. (Leaves and stem) Rapid breathing, shock, dilated pupils, gum inflammation

Apple Seeds. Varied Toxic Effects.

Apricot. (Leaves and stems) Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea.

Apricot Seeds. Varied Toxic Effects

Asparagus Fern. Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Cramps, tremors, heart, respiratory, kidney problems.

Avocado Seeds. Diarrhea, Vomiting, Labored Breathing, Death.

Azalea. (Entire Plant), Upset stomach, Drooling, Depression, Paralysis of the muscles, including the heart, depression of the nervous system, Coma. Sometimes fatal.

Balsam. (Impatiens.) Pear Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea.

Bird of Paradise. (Seed Pods), Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Buttercup. Upset stomach.

Caladium. Upset Stomach, Oral Irritation, Asphyxiation, Tremors, Seizures, Loss of Balance, Death.

Calla Lilly. (Entire Plant), Intense burning sensation and irritation of the mouth, Nausea, Asphyxiation. Swallowing two or more seeds may cause serious illness or death.

Cherry. (Leaves and stem) Shock, Gum Inflammation, Dilated Pupils, Rapid Breathing.

Chrysanthemum. Skin irritations, may appear as a rash but may also give rise to dermatitis.

Jonquil (Narcissus) Upset Stomach, Hyperactivity, Depression Coma, Seizures, Tremors, Weakness, Irregular Heartbeat, Death.

Daffodil. (Bulb), severe vomiting and diarrhea, trembling, convulsions, and sometimes death.

Daphne. (Entire Plant), Burning and ulceration of stomach and intestines, bloody vomiting and diarrhea.

Dumb Cane Dieffenbachia. Upset Stomach, Oral Irritation, Asphyxiation, Tremors, Seizures, Loss of balance, Death

Eggplant (all parts except fruit) Upset Stomach, Heart Failure, Drooling, Lethargy.

Elephant's Ear. (Colocasia) Upset Stomach, Oral Irritation, Asphyxiation, Tremors, Seizures, and Loss of Balance, Death

English Ivy. (Leaves and Berries), General excitement, difficulty in breathing and coma.

Holly Berries. Vomiting, diarrhea, Loss of balance, Seizures, weakness and collapse.

Hydrangea. Seizures, Rapid breathing, Loss of Balance.

Iris. (Leaves, Roots and Fleshy portions), Severe but temporary digestive upset.

Jasmine. Weakness, Seizures, Respiratory Failure.

Jasmine Yellow. (Entire Plant), Thirst, dilation of the pupils, reddened skin, headache, high blood pressure and rapid pulse, convulsions, delirium and coma.

Jerusalem Cherry. (Berries), Vomiting, diarrhea and collapse.

Lantana. (Berries), Gastric intestinal irritation, muscular weakness and circulatory difficulties. Sometimes fatal.

Mushrooms. Varied Toxic Effects.

Morning Glory. Upset Stomach, Hallucinations.

Nuts. Walnuts are poisonous to dogs and should be avoided. There is a fungus common to walnuts (especially wet deadfall walnuts) that will cause severe episodes of seizures. Many nuts are not good for dogs in general, their high phosphorous content is said to possibly lead to bladder stones.

Oleander. (Entire Plant), Nausea, depression, bloody diarrhea, Tremors, Seizures, weakened and irregular paralysis, Heart Failure, Excitability or Lethargy.

Onion. Upset Stomach, Anaemia. Onions, especially raw onions, have been shown to trigger haemolytic anaemia in dogs.

Peach. (Leaves and stems.) Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea.

Peony. Upset Stomach, Tremors, Seizures, Staggering, Loss of Balance, Depression, Collapse, Heart Failure, Death.

Philodendron. Upset Stomach, Mouth Irritation, Tremors, Seizures, Loss of Balance, asphyxiation, death

Philodendron (Saddle Leaf, Split Leaf). Swollen Mouth, Painful Tongue, Sore Lips.

Poinsettia. (Leaves and Stems), Diarrhea, abdominal cramps and delirium. Sap can cause irritation, and if rubbed in the eyes can cause blindness.

Poison Oak. (Leaves), Skin irritation.

Privet. (Entire Plant), Bloody vomiting, diarrhea, severe irritation of the digestive tract and general nervous system.

Ranunculus. Or Buttercup. (Entire Plant), Stomach irritation, diarrhea, and in large quantities, convulsions.

Rhubarb. (Leaves), Vomiting, severe abdominal pain, muscle cramps. And in large quantities, convulsions, coma and death.

Seven Year Bean. (Raw, it is a red bean), Cooked is not harmful, raw is highly toxic.

Snail Pellets. (1 Pellet can kill).

Tomato Vine. Upset Stomach, Lethargy, Drooling, Heart Failure, and Dilated Pupils.

Tulip. (Bulb) Has varied toxic effects.

Umbrella Plant. Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Cramps, Tremors, heart, respiratory, kidney problems

Wisteria. (Entire Plant), Severe vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
