4 legged friends believe in Santa.Please Adopt

Dear Santa,

I heard you know all the names of children everywhere and if they’re naughty or nice. Do you know the names of all the companion animals too? If not, my name is Maggie and I am a 10 year old Beagle. I am at the animal shelter. There are lots of dogs, cats and rabbits here just like me…homeless. We’re not sure why we are here. My friends and I don’t know what it means to be naughty or nice but I bet we could learn.

What we do know is how to be dogs, cats and bunnies. We like to run and play. We like scratches under our chins and behind our ears, a comfortable place to sleep and food in our bellies. Most of us have never had a home. The shelter workers want all of the animals to get one because home is where you’re loved for your whole life. I think I’d like one but it would be selfish to ask just for myself. There are just so many of us waiting and hoping Santa, could you find us all forever homes?

If you can’t Santa, could you remind the people on your list that the animal shelter needs their help to take care of us homeless animals until we do find a home? Animals can’t ask for help or tell people what they need. We depend on the people at the shelter to ask for us. I’m sorry we don’t have anything to give back except our unconditional love.

So Santa, if you really do know the names of lots of people, could you remind them there are a lot of animals in shelters everywhere needing homes year round. Wouldn’t it be the best gift ever if there were no more animals in shelters because everyone got taken home?

I think that would make shelter workers very happy.

It's great to adopt. But please do NOT give pets as gifts. If you are going to adopt. Adopt for yourself, not for someone else.

While it's harmless enough to toss an unwanted necktie to the back of the closet, puppies and kittens require a 15- to 20-year commitment and should not be given as gifts.

If you can not adopt at this time. Consider sponsoring an animal at your local humane society or private animal rescue.

Sponsoring is always a great alternative idea to making a pet a gift.. don't give a pet as a gift unless you're also the one taking responsibility for it.
