Merle/Merle Breeding
Recently I saw an ad for someone advertising puppy's who's both parents were merle. I do not believe this breeder or thier "friend" who had the pups cared that breeding merle to merle is just asking for trouble. When I contacted them, they made the comment that they had been breeding them for years with no problem. This is NOT the response of a responsible breeder.
PLEASE be aware of the problems that can occure when breeding merle to merle. They are similar to what could happen when you breed two overo horses, you get what is called a Lethal White about 1/3 of the time.
Merle is a beautiful color on a Aussie or any dog, but there can be too much of a good thing.
Before you buy ANY puppy , research the breed to know what problems can exist, and ALWAYS check the breeders reputation. Ask for references, any reputable breeder will be more than glad to put you in touch with former clients. And be very learly of any breeder who only wants to meet you halfway and doesn't want you to see the parents or where the pups were raised. I personally would report anyone like that to the local humane society because it is a strong sign of a puppy mill.
