Infant's Body Found In Dodge County...

THERESA, Wis. -- A baby's body has been found in a garbage bag in the woods in the Dodge County Town of Theresa.

Sheriff's officials said someone cutting wood came across the bag, looked inside and saw what appeared to be an infant, then called authorities at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies confirmed it was a baby, apparently born within the previous 24 hours.

The sheriff's department asked for public assistance in helping to identify the baby's mother.

Once again, what is wrong with people. Just take the child to a hospital or somewhere it can be put of for adoption.

My thought exactly, family or friends might be able to help or maybe a stranger in public, walk up to a woman with children or grandma looking female or anyone who looks like they may care more than you obviously do? someone, anyone who could help you so you dont need to hurt these children... it just blows me away how many people do this... just crazy!

UPDATED: Monday, May 4, 2009 --- 1:25 p.m.

The baby is a girl, approximately 8 lbs, full-term, and appeared very healthy. It is apparent that the biological mother sought prenatal care or took care of herself during the pregnancy. At this time, tests are still being conducted which will be used to determine the cause of death for “Baby Theresa”. Authorities have named the baby to provide her an identity, and are named after the community closest to where Teresa was found, the Village of Theresa.

Dr. Kelley has grave concerns that the mother may be in dire straights and needs immediate medical attention. As five days have passed since the birth, the mother may be susceptible to infection of she does not seek medical attention.

Authorities are working tirelessly to reunite her with her family, (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles) and provide a respectful and dignified burial.

There was an update on this story just last week. The baby's death was from natural causes and wasn't killed by the mother. They still don't know who the mother was or why she would leave the baby's body where she did.

wow, having died from natural causes, i wonder why the mom vanished like that.

I'm guessing she was young and didn't want anyone to know, but it seems odd either way.
