THE Best Cut Cookies - Just in time for Christmas!

Description
These are the big soft sugar cookies that the bakery makes. The cookie itself it bland so it can handle the super sweet icing. You'll never use a different cut out cookie recipe again!
Ingredients
  • SOUR CREAM CUT OUT COOKIES
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3eggs 2 tsp.baking powder
  • 1 c. lard (Crisco stix)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sourcream
  • 6 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • DECORATING FROSTING
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 c. light corn syrup
  • food coloring
Preparation
No prior preparation is required.
Instructions
  1. Mix together sugar, lard and beaten eggs; add sour cream with baking soda mixed into it, vanilla, salt baking powder and flour. Add more flour if needed. Chill dough until ready to cut out and bake. Bake 375 degrees for 8 - 12 minutes.
  2. DECORATING FROSTING (COOKIES)
  3. 2 egg whites
  4. 2 1/2 c. powder sugar
  5. 1/4 c. light corn syrup
  6. assortment of food coloring (optional)
  7. Beat egg whites until they hold soft peaks. Add sugar gradually. Beat until sugar is dissolved and frosting stands in peaks. Add corn syrup. Beat 1 minute. If desired, add food coloring to get desired colors. Add a few drops of water if a thinner frosting is desired. Keep frosting well-covered when not in use.

Right on time for National Cookie Day. Nice.
Using lard enhances the flavor combination. Can I substitute butter for the lard?

I don't know if you could sub butter for lard but I'm thinking it would be fine. I use the butter flavor Crisco stix.
