Looking For An Address...

Yes, yes, yes...I know that the silly questions are suppose to be Wisconsin related but just can't find anything silly about our great state!

So, as a Wisconsin person I have noticed this when I myself am driving or riding with someone so...here's my question:

Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

Just wondering, does our address numbers on the houses call out to us when we drive by so that is why we turn the radio down? Maybe I am hard of hearing and just can't hear them?

Anyone know why most of us do this?

Re: Looking For An Address...

I know that I do it, because it is distracting. It is causing me to use my sense of LISTENING while I am trying to use my sense of SIGHT.

I am able to focus more when I reduce the amount of stimulus going on in my brain.

Make sense?

Re: Looking For An Address...

Well answer me this question...why in our city, (not sure about other towns) our address seem to skip numbers but yet where we live the lots are narrow and we have to share driveways.

Such as our address ends in 36, going south it's 40, then 44. What happened to the houses in between?

It's all about distraction. The people on the radio are generally spewing senseless babble, so you tune them out in order to focus your full attention at hand...in this case, listening to house numbers calling out to you.

A nerves thing.

Even #'s on one side of the street, odds on the other. Sometimes the owner of one lot/house purchased the adjacent lot for whatever reason, play area for the kids; don't want to live too close to the neighbor...etc, etc.

Might be a sewer district thing.

Just know this, it isn't done to make things easier for folks trying to find an address.
