I recommend Usingers for the Milwaukee Bratwurst connoisseur.
Find the Usinger's Sausage at 1030 N. Old World Third Street, in Milwaukee's historic Third Ward.
Usinger's is excellent, no doubt. And they have those wonderful little serated edge knives that come in Usinger's gift packages. I picked up a few of them at a thrift store and they are just great for paring and small chopping jobs. Why anyone would part with them after receiving a gift package is beyond me.
However, I am craving those little Bavarian brats from Aldi's. I simply MUST have some soon!
I love Johnsonville brats. Have you ever tried the Johnsonville frozen grilled brats? They actually aren't to bad. Microwave for about a minute and you have a browned, grilled (fake) but good Johnsonville brat for the times when you just can't grill out.

I always have fun going to Usingers in Milwaukee. When there always make sure you check out the back table they have behind the counter and see what is on their 'special' sales.
After stopping in at Usingers we can't leave without going across the street to the Spice House. Love, love, love that place! Excellent spices.
Haven't tried them.. will have to look them up.. got some cheddar and beef brats..

I wish we had a good gourmet shop locally to pick up some spices and such..
I just bet if you googled "spices" you could find many online suppliers.

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Here you go Dave...check out the following website. Great tips and an online store. They also have a wonderful little catalog that I pick up from the store that gives alot of info on what spice to use and when, pictures and description and ways to use spices. I think you can order the catalog too.
"Bratwurst" translated is "fried sausage" in German. In Germany, it's more common to fry sausage than to grill it even today. I'm sure a "Brat Fry" is a carry-over from our German ancestors who settled in Wisconsin.

When you're camping and forget the ketchup, bbq sauce will do. I've had brats with nothing on because some dummies forgot the condiments. Closest thing to a condiment were pickle spears. Had to go with that, but kind of blah.
See and I believe putting ketchup on any form of a sausage or something which appears to look like a sausage (hot dog) is just plain wrong. To be honest, I only put bbq sauce on kielbasa.
When I'm decorating a brat I put a combination of onions, jalapenos, and mustard. If I'm not making them myself or the condiments are limited, only mustard.
For the health conscience eater that isn't interested in the fatty grease, and what not, you'll want to prepare your brats on a charbroiler, aka as a grill. Johnsonville brats should be especially grilled, as they have the high fat content. The fat, along with the spices and other additives is where the flavors come from.
