Re: why are pies round?

Colonial women used round pans literally to cut corners and stretch the ingredients (for the same reason they baked shallow pies).

Re: why are pies round?

Are you trying to tempt us with that apple pie?

Interesting answer.

Octagons would be good for making triangular pieces, except I'd eat better sized hexagon slices.

Regards,
Keith

Re: why are pies round?

A pie is round so you can get a nice piece of crust on each slice.

good link:
"1620 - The Pilgrims brought their favorite family pie recipes with them to America. The colonist and their pies adapted simultaneously to the ingredients and techniques available to them in the New World. At first, they baked pie with berries and fruits pointed out to them by the Native Americans. Colonial women used round pans literally to cut corners and stretch the ingredients (for the same reason they baked shallow pies)."

The answer above was right on - and likely from here!

Regards,
Keith
