I used to go to this ski resort that served soup for $2.75 a bowl and chili for $3.00 a bowl and they always had the soup of the day for $2.50
I really got confussed when chili was the soup of the day!!
How does that work?
Ah, real Chili...not that bean, meat sauce, and noodle stuff I seem to find here in Wisconsin. People call it Chili, and it's good, but back home we called it Hamburger Helper and a can of beans. I've even seen Chili Cook-Off rules forbidding noodles.
Anyway, Chili as the soup of the day? I guess if it goes in a bowl and it's in a liquid (or semi liquid) state they call it "soup." Seems weird to me too.
I use V8. I add onions, celery, smashed tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, elbow macaroni, chunks of sirloin. a dash/couple of pinches of cinnamon...maybe some molasses...depends on how I feel at the time. If there is something in my line of sight that I think might be good to eat in chili, that goes in too.
I like it thick, so I crush some saltines over the serving, and mix them in.
Thing about chili...especially "German Chili", no matter what you use in your recipe, it's going to be a good deal.
