Swearing usually happens after the shock! Doesn't prevent future shocks, but it seems to help.
Another thing that can help reduce static buildup is using fabric softener in your laundry....and now that I think about it, using conditioner in your hair reduces static, too. Skin lotions too....and getting enough liquids in your diet also helps.

Yeah I should have shot it. I kep thinking that as the numbers were adding up. It went in to have the valve cover gaskets fixed cuz they've been leaking oil for about 6 months...I just kept ignoring it. I also kept ignoring this "noise" coming from from passenger front wheel area.
And I said as long as you have the van can you change the wipers for me, and see if you can figure out why the steering is so poor.
This breaking lead to that breaking and that breaking led to stress on this and making those break and as long as it's ripped apart and we know this is bad it should be fixed if you are fixing everything else. OMG
I usually cuss and wave my hand around, sometime put my finger in my mouth.
But when It don't shock me, I get worried, and make sure I know where the jumper cables are. I actually had to replace the battery, shortly after noticing no shocks, once.
I am impressed with many of the replys here though, Good work! and thanks!

ME ME ME, I have the answer.
Getting shocked when getting out of you car means the electrical charge in your body is too high. Here's how to fix it quick lol.
Get yourself two (2) 9volt batteries, make sure they are fully charged or it won't work.
Put the two batteries on the table side by side so the contacts are facing up. As you can see they have a male and female connector on top. Here's the trick, align the contacts so on battery 1 the male contact is forward top and on battery 2 the female contact is forward top, the bottom row would be female and male, ok now tape the batteries together side by side so the four contacts are facing up.
Now it's time to equalize the the charge in your body with the batteries, you see the batteries will cancel out the static energy in your body, cool isn't it
Everyone knows water is a conductor of electricity so, you guessed it, your tongue is the connection.
Just put the 2 batteries (contacts down) on your tongue and give it about 5 seconds and your done
Don't worry you won't get shocked because the batteries are taped in reverse polarity. See that's the trick. Give it a try and let me know what happens
