FISH LAKE: Residents seek relief
Dane County officials emphasized to the residents of Fish Lake that if they wish to sell their property to the county, the process will be voluntary, private and as painless as possible.
Laura Guyer, Dane County's conservation fund manager, told the lake residents that crowded into the Roxbury Town Hall for an informational meeting April 29 that the county will consider purchasing the 16 properties along Fish Lake's flooded shoreline using money primarily from the county's conservation fund.
This leaves Fish Lake residents with a choice of pursuing a buyout or staying and hoping that the fish Lake pumping project lowers the water levels.
Guyers said she wouldn't reveal how many residents had called inquiring about selling their property to the county, and until a resident agrees to sell and the bid goes before the Dane County Board of Supervisors for final approval, no names of any residents involved in the buyout would be released.
"I would say not more than two or three are interested right now," said Bob Pings, a member of the Crystal, Fish and Mud Lake District board and the Roxbury Town Clerk.
He said he's talked to many of the residents and the people most interested in selling are those with severely water-damaged homes.
