Madison May Consider Ban on Tossing Plastic Bags
Several Madison politicians are expected to introduce a measure that would ban the disposal of clean, recyclable plastic bags.
The proposal is set to be introduced Tuesday by Alderwoman Judy Compton, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and others.
It wouldn't ban the bags outright, as has been discussed earlier. Instead it would allow residents to throw out soiled bags but ask them to recycle clean ones.
The city would likely set up drop-off sites for the bags. Throwing out a clean bag would carry a $100 fine for a first offense, more for subsequent offenses.
