Local Group Offers Alternative To The Dollar
Money.
We all need it.
But in the midst of a recession a lot of people are having a tough time finding it.
Now, some people in Madison are starting to cash in using hours not dollars.
From espressos to children's clothes and even groceries.
You can have it all and you don't have to part with your cash.
The only thing it will cost you is a couple of hours.
" My favorite part is right here it is says in each other we trust."
Jon Hain is a part of the Madison Hours Co-op.
His group came up with their own monetary unit called the hour.
"This currency is a co-cooperatively run currency for Madison and for our residence. "
The bills come in three different denominations.
There is the hour which is equal to $10.
The half hour which is equal to $5 and the quarter hour which is equal to $2.50.
Total Hain says there's about 4,500 hours on the street that can be used at about 40-shops in the Madison area.
