Nurse Called Out Of Surgery to be Laid Off

MADISON, Wis. -- A Dean Health System nurse was called out of surgery so a manager could tell her she was being laid off.

Dean Health says the surgery was minor and the patient wasn't affected, but the manager who summoned the nurse from surgery violated medical protocol.

Dean Health spokesman Paul Pitas said the incident happened at Dean's West Clinic in Madison on Wednesday or Thursday.

The Madison-based health care provider announced Wednesday that it planned to "immediately" lay off 90 employees.

That's crazy, no matter how minor the surgery. Geez even medical places laying off. That so odd with all the jobs in that field. I suppose because no one can afford the doctors right now.

In their article last week, Dean Clinics said it's laying off, but not due to hardship or the economy, rather to keep the clinic running efficiently (or something like that), maybe they should use that money saved to educate the remaining employees on how to follow protocol.

laying people off to make a place run more efficient. That sounds a bit backwards. With less people around, it's more for each person to do and more likely mistakes will happen. Unless they had a lot of dead weight around there that they needed to dump.
