Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt: The Absent City

Saturday, August 2, 2008 through Sunday, November 16, 2008

Miami-based artists Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt, who were trained as architects in Argentina, will create a three-part installation in MMoCA's lobby and State Street Gallery

A curtain of ribbons in the museum's glass icon will be complemented by a salon-like "reading room" with two-dimensional works and furniture in the lobby

The third work, an installation of ribbons in State Street Gallery, will be arranged in conglomerations to recreate a medieval city

Casting of Segal Sculpture, "Depression Bread Line"

Sunday, September 14, 2008 through Sunday, December 28, 2008

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) has commissioned the casting of a major bronze sculpture by renowned artist George Segal

Depression Bread Line measures more than 9x12x3 ft and depicts five men standing in line by the doorway of a building during the Great Depression

The original sculpture was commissioned by the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, DC, and the first casting, completed in 1991, is a permanent part of that memorial

An Art of Inner Necessity

Now through Sunday, July 19, 2009

Expressionist Works from MMoCA's Permanent Collection

An Art of Inner Necessity examines the expressionist tradition in modern and contemporary art through paintings and works on paper from the permanent collection of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

Barbara Probst: Exposures

Saturday, December 6, 2008 through Sunday, March 8, 2009

This exhibition is comprised of groupings from Barbara Probst's series Exposures, which she began in 2000 and continues to expand

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Saturday, January 24, 2009 through Sunday, April 12, 2009

An opening reception will take place from 5:30-8pm Friday, Feb 6, as part of First Fridays at MMoCA.

The evening will feature a gallery talk by Rick Axsom, curator of collections, starting at 6:30 pm

The title of this exhibition, a warning uttered by one of the three witches in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, sets the stage for a presentation of evil as visualized by modern and contemporary artists

The works in the exhibition date from the early 20th century to the present

Free to members; $5 for general public
