How much water do you typically drink a day? I have a 24oz metal bottle I got from Marlboro that I refill and drink from all day, maybe 4 of those a day.. how about you?

Well Dave, 96 oz. of water daily is good.
Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years, but in truth, your water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live. As much as 20% of your water intake comes from your diet. Dietary recommendations vary between men and women. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.
One gallon was the recommendation for years, but has recently been updated to 8x8. Eight, eight ounces glasses of water daily is just right, depending on your environment, and physical activity. 64 oz. That's a half gallon.
I have a 2 litre camel back hydration that I fill and take with me on my hikes. Leaves my hands free from carrying a bottle. I usually empty that, and have to stop at a convenience store to refill. I then go about drinking that, as well. I'm getting plenty of water.
Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. Most common in babies and athletes. Babies under 6 months can succumb to hyponatremia by having several bottles of water daily, or by drinking baby formula that has been heavily diluted. Athletes sweat heavily, losing both water and electrolytes. Water intoxication and hyponatremia result when a dehydrated person drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes.
If you drink ALOT of water, be sure to get the needed electrolytes, vitamins and minerals. Water depletes (washes out) these vital nutrients.

The other day in the high heat I packed and worked in the non air conditioned house and the heat was awful. I drank ice tea and water off and on all day. I thought I drank enough but must not of taken in consideration of how much fluid I lost over the course of the day.
I went to sleep that night in a hot room and woke up about 5 hours later in the morning with the totally worse Charlie Horse from my hip down my leg. It took about 15 minutes before I could get out of bed! I honestly sat there trying to work it out thinking, wow, if the house was on fire I could not get out of the room!
Anyways, I googled about Charlie Horse and every where I read was about possible dehydration and electrolytes being 'off' along with being more active than usual could cause night time cramps such as this.
Anyways, I took an extra strong vitamin and drank a mix I had to put in water to help balance electrolytes and drank extra water in the evening and so far I have not had a repeat. Whew, that was not fun.
