Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

Quote:
Then I grew up in a household where everyone put ketchup on steaks and fish, same with my husband's family. I don't like steak sauce and my family isn't that fancy and never bought it. I don't like tartar sauce since it has pickle relish and looks like boogers with snot. So ketch up it is for fish. We went out with another couple once and we were all eating ketchup on steaks except her. She said she never heard of anyone putting ketchup on a steak. I guess she doesn't get out much. LOL She also said she never saw anyone eat ketchup on fried fish. She needs to pay attention more at Friday night fish fries.

I am not a fan of steak sauce, mushrooms, ketchup or anything on my steak. I will put ketchup on pot roast. Have no idea how I started that but it really is good.

As far as ketchup on fish? Never tried that, doesn't even sound good, not sure if I ever saw anyone doing that and yes, I go to fish frys all over. I also am not a fan of tarter sauce until I tried Hellman's tarter sauce. Much better tasting than any other on the market.

When my kids were little they used to like cut up hot dogs in their cheese and macaroni. I thought it was gross but they loved it. I always put some hot dogs in the Bush's beans when I make them. It's funny how we like foods a certain way because that's the way mom made it.
When my older kids were young they use to love hot dog casserole which was hot dogs cut up in mac and cheese too.

I remember when I was young I use to totally love Swanson's beans and weiners dinner. I think it had corn bread with it. Not sure if there is a t.v. dinner like that anymore? lol I know I would not be interested in trying it.

Maybe Dave would know? Is there still a beans and weiners t.v. dinner out there? I think I will look at Woodman's next time I am there, they have everything.

Oh thanks Cindy, you made me have a memory of my first husband. LOL He use to love to eat ketchup with fried egg sandwiches.

He also loved to slice hot dogs length wise and fry them and eat them with fried eggs in place of sausage. Yikes. He loved it. (maybe why I divorced him?) lol

Let's see, I've had ranch dressing, cheese sauce, gravy (called browns when on fries), bbq sauce and ketchup. Yes, restaurants serve all of these. I didn't make any of those up, except maybe the bbq sauce.

Did you know some places you can order a fried egg on your hamburger? It's actually pretty good. That means putting ketchup on there too, at least if I'm eating it, there will be ketchup. Fried egg on a burger is popular in Australia, but there's places that have it here. I think I've seen just about everything on a burger. Just had one the other day with bbq pork and cheese on it.

No different than putting ham or some other meat in the Mac n Cheese. I've done that. I've put mushrooms in there too. Kind of like hamburger helper in a way.

Steak with nothing on? Isn't that kind of blah? Putting ketchup on steak is really no different than a burger. They're both beef.

Never seen anyone use ketchup on fish? hmm, look around more next time you go to a fish fry. There will be some ketchup users since not everyone likes tartar sauce. I think my mom is the only that ate in our family.

I know people that had ketchup and potato chip sandwiches.

I used to slice hot dog lengthwise and put cheese in the slit. That's how I do the pigs in a blanket. So, if you use beef hot dogs, would they be called cows in a blanket?

I love the taste of a really good grilled steak so to me to cover it up with anything is messing with the taste of the good steak.

I've seen this on a menu somewhere. I thought it was on the Red Robins Menu but just checked and it's not there now.

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

I know someone that loves to dip their corn dogs in mayo and ketchup. I will once in a great while eat a corn dog but if I put anything on at all it will be mustard and a very small amount. Actually I will dip it in mustard not actually put it on the corn dog.

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

We have a place here that has slaw dogs and chili slaw dogs. Hot dogs with cole slaw. I never tried it but I was there with someone that tried slaw dog and liked it. Just did not sound good to me.

Standing Room Only Inc
srokenosha
635 75th Street
Kenosha, WI 53143-6024
(262) 658-4776

Here is a partial menu choices of their hot dogs:

Slaw Dog - dixie style cole slaw ………………………………………………. 2.59

Chili Slaw Dog - chili & cole slaw ……………………………………………… 2.79

Hot Dogs at srokenosha

Also listed is a KENOSHA DOG. Apparently a kenosha dog is a hot dog with just ketchup.

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

I wouldn't like the slaw dog just because I don't eat slaw. I'm not a fan of cabbage. I find eating cole slaw on bbq pork sandwiches is also strange. Even if I liked cole slaw, I still wouldn't put the 2 together.

As for corn dogs, I dip that in ketchup also. I always get tempted by those big corn dogs at fairs, but just looking at those monsters, I'll be they are 800 calories.

I cannot imagine taking so much time on 'hot dogs' to create these things. lol I do think the snail is cute though.

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

Deep fried bacon cheese and beer dog

1 hot dog
1 slice of thick-cut bacon
1 can of spray cheese
1 can beer (It doesn’t matter what kind, but we recommend something dark. Corona probably isn’t a good idea)
1 cup flour
Oil for frying

This one is a little work-intensive, so be ready to buckle down. First take the center out of the hot dog with an apple corer, if you have access to one. If not, just cut out the middle with a knife.

Fill the cavity with the spray cheese and use the hot dog you removed from the middle as a cap to keep the cheese in.

Wrap the bacon around the hot dog.

Deep-fry for two to four minutes or until bacon is cooked.

Dab them dry with a paper towel (so the batter will stick). Mix the beer with the flour until it reaches a thick, but lump-free consistency. Dip the dogs in the batter, coating the dog completely.

Deep-fry on high heat for two to three minutes or until brown and deadly.
NOTE: Don’t fry them too long or all of the cheese will explode out into the oil.

Deep fried bacon cheese and beer dog Absolute Moral Authority

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

That's interesting. You know, I'd probably try it. Did you see the picture of the ham dog at the bottom of that page. Looks like a mess.

I tried to post a pic of the ham dog but for some reason I couldn't get it to show up. I was thinking of all the calories in that mess. yuck.

Forgot about that one.. I love slaw on hot dogs, pork, and hamburgers ..

Corn dogs are great, but without the ketchup..

As for corn dogs, I dip that in ketchup also. I always get tempted by those big corn dogs at fairs, but just looking at those monsters, I'll be they are 800 calories.

Re: How Do You Like Your 'Dogs?

I love Vienna Beef Chicago dogs with everything on them. It is a whole meal, almost.

Otherwise, half burned on a stick held over a fire loaded with fresh onions and a little dip here and there, but not every bite.

Sometimes cut in half and fried in a pan.

One of my sons slept in a tent in the back yard one whole summer when he was about 14, and cooked almost every night over a fire. He practically lived on hot dogs and made them for us, too. It was one of our happiest moments that summer, family sharing hot dogs outside by the fire.

BTW: he had a dome tent in his room where he slept for a couple years during winter months. The kid loved camping! He is 24 now, still loves the outdoors and thank goodness he lost the pyro obsession. He loved playing with fire, which is how it all got started in the first place. When we moved into our new home when he was age 8, he was playing with matches and I was afraid he would burn the house down. So, dug a hole in the back yard and gave him a huge box of matches and told him if he was going to play with fire he could only do it right there and not in the house. It worked!
