We do get cheap cereal there, but I can also find cheap cereals at Walmart if you get the kind in a bag. Is that Malt-o-Meal that makes the bag cereals? I don't remember since we put it in the rubbermaid containers right away and I don't look at the bags much.
I buy almost all our cereal at Walmart too. The supermarkets want way to much for the same thing you can get at Walmart. And cereal is not only a fast breakfast it also saves money so you can go out and eat a great breakfast at the restaurant sometimes.
Here's an interesting article that may help shed some light on the question here:
Top 5 Fast Food Value Menu Deals
Common wisdom suggests that it's cheaper to cook your own meals at home than it is to eat in a restaurant. But as the economy's slump continues, fast-food restaurants have been trumpeting the financial merits of their value menus, many of which offer filling food for a dollar or less.
With these companies' ability to buy food in mass quantities at much greater discounts than what you can get from even a discount grocer, can you really compete? Let's take a look the top five fast food values out there today.

Except that home cooking tastes better than fast food. Of the ones listed on the list I only go to Taco Bell. Haven't been to a McD's in many years, probably not in 15 years or more. Yuck!
I wonder what the results would be if they looked at the health side of things.

At the very bottom of the article is pretty much says, it depends on what you want, fast and convenient or quality and your waistline. I'm taking that as if you want the best, eat at home. But then there are those times like just last night by the time we finished with what we had to do it was way past our dinner time and we were hot and tired. Thinking about a healthy, good meal that I had to prepare vs fast food line. lol Fast food line won hands down.
That's the problem with society now, to much to do in the time we have and something is falling by the way side because of it and that would be our health. Many of us need to stand back and look at priorities and figure out how to change things. That is what we have been trying to do here but I think we need to work at it more. The fast food lines are always sooo tempting but maybe if we made extra meals and froze them so the late evenings we can just pop something in the microwave, could be a better option with a toss salad. ummm

So, while in most cases you can't get better deal at the drive-through window than in the grocery aisle, if you stick to value menu items, the savings gleaned by flipping your own burgers are very small, particularly for top fast food restaurants like Wendy's and McDonald's.
It all depends on what you value most. If your top priorities are convenience and price, fast food chains may be the most budget-friendly way to fill your stomach. If you're worried about food quality - or your waistline - these cheap, filling fast food deals may not be your best bet.
For fast food, I prefer Taco Bell.. unless I'm not in the mood for chalupas (yum!).. then I go to Arby's or Hardee's.. Burger or Sonic, maybe.

Just had a steak chalupa supreme yesterday. Love Taco Bell but I can't call it Mexican Food. It is just a style of it's own. If I want Mexican Food it has to be 'real'.
Arby's we rarely go to it. We have several around our city but really I forget they are around. I have one daughter that really likes their food but the rest of us can pretty much forget it.
Burger King. I actually like their Whopper Jr with lettuce, tomato, and mayo only. Been getting it like that for years. If I'm really hungry and they have a special I'll bust out and get the full whopper. Their fries are pretty good. Like them better than most places.
Sonic. I have always wanted to try Sonic. Saw one in TN a few years back. Guess we will have a chance to finally check one out sometime in the near future as I read they are planning on building in Wisconsin.
But you know what I find, you can pick up fast food, but not to much or your body actually starts craving a real home cooked meal. At least I do that.
So guess it doesn't matter if it is cheaper or not, in the end, nothing really beats a good home cooked meal.
I love Malt-O-Meal puffed rice cereal.. always buy a couple bags at a time ($1 at Walmart)..

PK, Madison does have a Sonic somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Also, you should find them Illinois. I want them to get a Bob Evans in Wis.
Give me a Qdoba or a Quiznos over Taco Bell, BK, McD's, Subway, etc.
Home cooked meals have changed to fast food talk hahaha. I don't actually eat a lot of fast food anywhere to be honest. If we go out to eat it's more for sit down meals. I think it's a better deal since you get leftovers and it tastes better.
If I'm in a hurry at home there's always grilled cheese or some kind of grilled sandwich, canned soups with lots of seasoning added to make it edible and I make wraps a lot with whatever I can find in the fridge.
One of the best meal deals I have found is at Mineshaft on Wed. and Fri. nights. They have the all you can eat fish fry for only $4.99. You can add a dollar or two for the shrimp with it. We never go to this, but there's always a wait either night so get there early. I'm guessing this price covers lunch as well.
The $9.99 steak night is a good deal on Thurs. because regular price is $16.99.
Was just looking in my freezer and I see I have so much stuff, I certainly won't eat it all by month's end!
If I buy family packs and portion them into freezer bags, I'd say it's cheaper to eat at home.. I can buy 8 pork steaks for about 5 dollars and those are enough for a week of meals right there..

Trusted more. I pretty sure the cooks/chefs in restaurants don't wash their hands after using the rest room.
Oh what a gross thought but I'm sure you are correct.
I wash my hands all the time. If I'm cooking and have to stop to answer the phone, go in the other room, what ever the reason and come back into the kitchen, I again will wash my hands before resumeing my cooking. Just makes sense to me.
