MARSHMALLOW

The Mallow family of plants (Malvaceae) includes hollyhock, the cotton plant, okra, marsh mallow and the Rose of Sharon. The roots of the marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis) were the source for the original marshmallow candy, made by boiling the soft inner pulp from the roots with sugar until very thick.
According to Harold McGee in 'On Food and Cooking,' "the first marshmallow-like confection, called pate de Guimauve, was made in France" from the juice of the marsh mallow.
Today, marshmallows are made from sugar, corn syrup and gelatin.

Marshmallows have an assortment of uses, including baking, roasting, cooking or just eating without any further preparation.

Nice flower, too!

Re: MARSHMALLOW

We're going to have to get you some graham crackers and chocolate to go with that marshmallow story so you can tell us s'mores!

Ba da bing!

Re: MARSHMALLOW

I love roasted marshmallows over a campfire! I've even roasted them over a gas stove in a pinch!

Re: MARSHMALLOW

In place of the Hershey bar in a s'more, try using a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. It's mmmmm mmmm good.

I've done that before. You have to be careful with the stove, the marshmallows tend to catch fire fast. I hate that burnt taste.

Way too funny, Keith.
On the subject of s'mores, I have a handled device that you place the s'mores ingredients in the "pan" deal", it's hinged with a cover. Just fold the cover into position, and let it roast over a campfire or charcoal fire...leave it for a few seconds, maybe a minute, and you have the perfectly prepared s'more.

Such a great deal!
