Cut the pumpkin in half, and scoop out the insides. Microwave each half, cut side down, until tender. Holding the pumpkin with oven mitts, scoop the softened pulp into a bowl and let the pumpkin cool before adding to other pie ingredients.
I have the squash or pumpkin sitting in some water and stick the halved side down in the Oven for one hour at *350.

I have yet to make a 'real' pumpkin pie using a pumpkin etc. I will have to try this sometime but everyone loves my pumpkin pies starting with a can. lol

My in-laws use the real pumpkin. If you've never seen real pumpkin you might be surprised about the color of the pie. It doesn't have the orange color like the canned. I've always had canned pumpkin and for some reason the real pumpkin doesn't look as good to eat. It tastes the same, just have to get used to the lack of color. Funny how a food's appearance can make it taste 'different.' Sometimes it's all in your head. I'll eat it anyway. Love anything to do with pumpkin.

I do recall seeing 'real' pumpkin pie before and now that you mention it I do remember the color being different compared to can pumpkin. Isn't it more of a dull brownish color?

I usually thought of it as being a sickly looking color. Like it something was missing. I know what it was, it was the food coloring. We need our artificial colors.
