Pumpkin Peeling

Cut the pumpkin in half, and scoop out the insides. Microwave each half, cut side down, until tender. Holding the pumpkin with oven mitts, scoop the softened pulp into a bowl and let the pumpkin cool before adding to other pie ingredients.

Re: Pumpkin Peeling

My in-laws use the real pumpkin. If you've never seen real pumpkin you might be surprised about the color of the pie. It doesn't have the orange color like the canned. I've always had canned pumpkin and for some reason the real pumpkin doesn't look as good to eat. It tastes the same, just have to get used to the lack of color. Funny how a food's appearance can make it taste 'different.' Sometimes it's all in your head. I'll eat it anyway. Love anything to do with pumpkin.

Re: Pumpkin Peeling

I saw an interesting recipe for pumpkin seed brittle. Sounds like something I'd like to try. Don't let those seeds go to waste.

Then I got to thinking what would happen if a person added pumpkin pie spices. That sounds even more interesting. I found a recipe like that.

Did you know that you can roast squash seeds just like pumpkin seeds?

I do recall seeing 'real' pumpkin pie before and now that you mention it I do remember the color being different compared to can pumpkin. Isn't it more of a dull brownish color?

Re: Pumpkin Peeling

I usually thought of it as being a sickly looking color. Like it something was missing. I know what it was, it was the food coloring. We need our artificial colors.

Whatever color, it's pie. Pie is an important part of a comfort food diet.

I like pie.

Re: Pumpkin Peeling

Comfort food diet? Is that what they are calling it? That's my kind of diet.
