Central American Restaurants NOT MEXICAN
http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=7210&rendTypeId=4
El Salvadorian Restaurants
From tacos to tostados, tamales to tortilla chips, many of us enjoy the spicy, lingering flavor of Mexican food. But sometimes it's easy to get in a Mexican culinary rut. We can forget that there are also other cuisines from countries south of our border.
Take El Salvador, for instance, the cuisine of El Salvador is similar to that of its Central American neighbors. Salvadoran food, however, is far more than a carbon copy of Mexican food partners.
There is a strong reliance on indigenous foods like corn, beans, squash and tomatoes. And the influence of Mayan culture on common dishes is quite strong, mixed in with contributions from the Spanish kitchen. But this tiny country on the Pacific coast has made a unique and rich contribution to the region's cuisine that is out of proportion to its small size.
Go to a Salvadoran restaurant, savor some pupusas (corn tortillas with a fried pork and cheese filling) and pastelitos de carne (little beef pies), along with the spicy marinated cabbage that is usually served with them, and you can add a whole new dimension to your taste bud's experiences.
To go along with your Salvadoran meal, you can order one of their refrescos naturales (natural fruit drinks) or, for a less sweet taste, sip on a Salvadoran Pilsner beer. There are other typical foods from El Salvador, like chilate, nuegados, yucca, atol de elote, tamales (from pork, chicken, beef) and shuco.
PUPUSAS: The typical foods in El Salvador is probably one of the best food anyone can taste! The food that most identifies Salvadorean people are "pupusas". There are different kinds of pupusas: cheese, bean, shrimp, revueltas (made of cheese, beans and chicharon), ayote, etc. Pupusas originated a long time ago. They were created by the Pipiles, the native Indians from El Salvador.

Saber del cultura y comida de Centro Americano Costa Rica
Palmito Costa Rican Cuisine
3605 North Ashland Avenue, Chicago, IL 60613
(773) 248-3087
Quote:
Exquisite food! Take it from a Costa Rican. Now this is the Costa Rican cuisine that was long overdue in Chicago. A definitive 'must' experience.
The food is absolutely delectible and the prices make it even yummier! What's even better, the place is BYOB. For flavorful food and a great time at an even better price, this is the place.
The food is fresh, flavorful and pretty. The place is small and busy. So far I've seen the place completely full, but no waiting. Did I mention a very friendly atmosphere? Try their ceviche of the day appetizer! (one was salmon with mango and red onions) or I also sugget the 'Tres Gallos'. It is a delightful variety of three popular Costa Rican dishes in one. For grilled meats: crispy-crusted pork loin comes in a plateful of peppery, finger-licking white bean sauce. ~Patron Review

Saber del cultura y comida de Centro Americano Isle de Cuba
Cuban Island
3446 West Peterson Avenue, Chicago, IL 60659
(773) 588-9922
Now you can enjoy your Cuban fare while basking in a gorgeous atmosphere. Cuban Island serves up all of Havana's classics, and the decor matches the cuisine in calibur. Cubans rich culinary history reflects from the influences of Native American, Spanish, African, Chinese and French immigrations. They also have their recipes built around the staples of rice and beans, pork, chicken, fried or broiled root vegetables: often flavored with onions, garlic tomatoes and spices.
Rancho Luna Cuban Cuisine
3357 W. Peterson Ave., Chicago
(773) 509-9332
This casual Latin eatery features a rotating lunch menu with a different selection of entrees daily. Each entree is served with white rice, black beans or a bean and rice combination for less than most fast food spots. Dinner specialties include the pollo Rancho Luna (grilled chicken marinated in lime juice, garlic and spices), and the lechon asado (roasted pork with rice, beans and garlic yuca). The guava and cream cheese pastry, and Cuban-style flan are a few of the dessert choices. Sangria, mojitos and pina coladas are customer favorites, and a variety of non-alcoholic Cuban beverages like guarapo, a refreshing drink made with sugar cane juice, are also available.
