To Prevent A Cooking Fire in Your Kitchen

1. Keep an eye on your cooking, and stay in the kitchen. Unattended cooking is the #1 cause of cooking fires.
2.Wear short or close fitting sleeves. Loose clothing can catch fire.
3. Watch children closely. When old enough, teach children to cook safely.
4. Clean cooking surfaces to prevent food and grease build-up.
5. Keep curtains, towels and pot holders away from hot surfaces, and store solvents and flammable cleaners away from heat sources. Never keep gasoline in the house.
6. Turn pan handles inward to prevent food spills.

Any others, post them at will.

pk will become famous soon enough
Remember microwaves can produce a fire also if you don't use the correct microwave products in it.

One time my daughter put a glass with water in the microwave to warm the water. She came out on the deck to talk to me for a minute. We walked back in to a melt down in the microwave. The glass was a thermal plastic glass which had little fibers inside the lining. This is not something. to put in the microwave, she quickly learned! Scorched the whole top of the inside.

...7. Always remember to read the labels on containers, and other vessels, to determine the necessary requirements for safe use in cooking.
Thanks for the tip, pk!
