Worcestershire Sauce
Did you know that Worcestershire Sauce was created in Worcester, England by John Lea and William Perrins?
In 1835 John Lea and William Perrins were operating a drug store in Worcester when Lord Marcus Sandys asked them to recreate an Indian sauce he had while in Bengal.
Lea and Perrins mixed up a batch of sauce using vegetables and fish, didn't care for the smell or flavor, and put the mixture in their cellar.
While cleaning their cellar almost two years later, the two men came across the discarded sauce. They opened it, tried it, and were pleasantly surprised with the taste. Thus, Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce was born!
The recipe, first produced in 1835, has hardly changed from the original. One important "key" to the taste is the aging process. Today, the mixture must age for two years before being sold.
Worcestershire Sauce remains one of the most popular steak sauces in the world today.

Whenever I make burgers, I throw in a dash of Worcestershire. I can never pronounce it....
Wors-ter-shire?
Woos-ter-shire?
Wis-ter-sheer?

I like it on steak, salads, sandwiches,as an ingredient in other sauces, on popcorn...the possibilities are far thrown around. I hear the Chinese like it on their rice.
