Columbia County fishing reports

For the big fishing stories, see our Fishing! FishOn! Wisconsin Fishing Forums. These forums cover other topics including Great Lakes Fishing, more on Tackle, etc.

This thread is the place to click "Post Reply" and tell us where the fish are biting in Columbia County!

You can also announce tournaments and such in this county here in this thread. (The main fishing forums recommended for that as well).

Please post this kind of information:

Subject Line: Lake or river name and what kind of fish are hitting

In the text: Please tell us whatever you can, including:

- where on the Lake / River
- what depth
- time of day
- bait / lure / presentation / colors
- boat access (and cost)

and anything else about the area like local bait shops, water hazards, alternative species and tackle in case the main stuff isn't happening, local places to stay, guide services, etc.

If it is an advertisement, put it in the classifieds; otherwise, hope you'll share some info for all. Just click "Post Reply".

Lazy Lake Info

Though the fish population of Park Lake was heavily hit by a summer die-off in 1995, it is coming back. In 1998, there was a fair fishery for Muskie, N. Pike, Largemouth Bass and panfish. Fish weedlines for all species. The lake weeds up heavily in summer, so you’ll have to pick your spots. Use the access on the east side of the lake, off Highway 44; there’s good parking.

Silver Lake Info

This 74-acre lake holds some large fish in its moderately deep water. You’ll find Muskies over 46 inches here, along with decent N. Pike, some Walleyes and smallish Largemouth Bass. Silver is a tough lake to fish, though because most of the structure is deep, and you need electronics to find it. The launch site between the two lobes of the lake will accept boats up to 18 feet, but you’ll have a hard time getting anything larger than a 16-footer under the bridge.

Swan Lake Info

This heavily used lake is a real hotbed of angling activity. Walleye angling is fast and furious, so much so that you can catch 50 fish in a couple of hours. Some of these will be of decent size, too. You’ll also find some Muskies, N. Pike, and good numbers of panfish. Look for weeds in both ends of the lake, and you’ll find fish. Cribs are scattered liberally around the lake also are fish magnets. The ice can be treacherous here, so ask in town before fishing.

Lake Wisconsin Info

Lake Wisconsin is one of those waters you have to fish at least once in your life. It’s got something for nearly everybody: big Walleyes running 10 pounds or so, nice Largemouth Bass, Catfish, panfish, even Lake Sturgeon. And, of course, Muskies. Muskies run large here. The stump fields on the northern part of the lake, across from Pine Bluff and at midlake, a bit east of there, are good places to try for this fish or her mates. Throw black bucktails in summer and large live bait in the fall. And don’t neglect the bars for this species, either. The ones east of Tipperary Point are likely spots out to the isles.
Walleye spawning is excellent in Lake Wisconsin, and the species is entirely self-sustaining. But the fish can be elusive. “It’s hard, sometimes, to catch a legal Walleye, especially during the summer, when “the guides quit taking people out, because it’s a hard bite.”
