Problem in Pardeeville

Recently we have had a problem in the small town of Pardeeville, just outside of Portage.

We were leasing property for our 2 horses. This property is at the end of a dirt road, there is a house but it is vacant. The property has ALOT of deer and turkey, and I guess someone was used to using it for hunting, both leagally and illegally. I say illegally because when we lived in the house briefly, our dog would drag deer hides, skulls (with 8 point antlers still attached), and other scraps out of the woods. Several times we noticed vehicles that would come down the drive, see the house occupied, and turn around and leave. We moved from the house but still had our horses there. For some reason, our horses kept getting out of 3 strands of electric fencing. The last 2 times, the fence charger was turned off, and the gate connected wrong. Strange boot prints were also found in the mud near the gate.

This has been reported to the Columbia county sherrif and the DNR.

If anyone has any information, or has seen any illegal hunting activity in that area, please contact the sherriff's dept. You can leave an message and not have to leave your name.

We have since then moved our horses to a secure boarding facillty about 10 minutes outside of town.

If you don't feel comfortable calling the police dept. just send me a private message, and I will relay it, and I will not tell where I got the information.

Thanks

I cannot say I am surprised by this type of behavior. There are a lot of horse-haters in Columbia County.

Do you have an update?

Nope,, seems like the police don't want to do anything. We have moved our horses elswhere, so I guess whoever it is,, they won. I just wasn't willing to try and win a battle at the expense of my horses.

I cannot say that I am surprised by the police response. The whole area has been polarized since the Stork case. The DA did not follow state law with respect to how she handled that case and everyone has paid for her stupidity except the people responsible for starving the horses. The irony disgusts me.

I am glad your horses are in a safe place.

Go well.
