Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

Just wondering how many of you collect or have amassed a collection of vinyl (as opposed to CDs)? 33's? 45's? or even 78's?

What genre do you collect or listen to most often?

I used to collect old blues on 78's as well as opera.. had a collection of children's records I remembered having as a kid:

YouTube - Red Raven Record & Magic Mirror Att. -Morgan doesn't know...
YouTube - Red Raven Movie Record and Magic Mirror
I bought one of these Red Raven Magic Movie records with the mirror attachment for $3 at an estate sale, later sold for $300.

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

By the way, to update your collection, you can easily convert your vinyl to mp3 or CD using a USB turntable like one of these (less than $80):

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

Up until last year, I had over 600 45s. I got tired of storing them and had no way to record them, so I sold them all to a neighbor for $15 just to get rid of them. He is a DJ on the local radio station so he was excited to get them plus he has a "record" room in his house where he keeps his own collection, so I know they went to a good home.

I still have quite a few albums from the 60's and 70's that I just couldn't part with. I sold some that weren't as sentimental at a yard sale a few years ago. There were probably 75 albums and I offered them to a guy for $25 and he bought them all.

I also have a few 8 track tapes left. Most of them were destroyed in the early 80s when our oldest son first learned to walk and he got a hold of them. It's kind of hard to put the tape back in once it's all pulled out. LOL

I miss record albums.. they were like books to me.. there was just a feel and smell to them a CD or MP3 file can't duplicate..

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

I have a collection of 45's from way back. I also have a bunch of albums mainly from the 70's. We also have an old Victrola that still works great and a whole colleciton of the really old records (78's) that plays on it.

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

I have a box of 45s and they are like new since I never really played them much. I used to record them on to cassette and save the record as a master copy. I have a few albums, but most of those I bought used when we used to go to places that sold used records cheap. I recorded those on cassette as well.

I have most of those songs downloaded from online so I don't need the cassettes or the records.

Cindy, they do make a way to record your records onto a CD. I've seen the device a couple times like during Christmas when they sell all those unique gadgets and electronics. You hooked up the turntable to the computer and it saved it onto the computer so you could burn to CD. I think that's how it worked.

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

It's not hard to remember if you remember the rules. An apostrophe replaces a missing letter/number or shows possession.

The temperature was in the 80s today. (Plural just like eighties. You don't say eightie's, do you? )
The music is from the '70s. (Missing numbers as in 19-apostrophe-70s)
Same with CDs, no apostrophe.
DVDs, no apostrophe.
I got all A's and B's in school. Yes, because it's a SINGLE character and needs to separated to avoid confusion.
45s is plural, not possessive.

You can blame my teachers for pounding it into my head so much. They made sure I'd never forget it.

You know how people that misuse "they're, their, there" drives you nuts? Same with apostrophes for me.

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

So many people don't even have a record player these days..

Earlier tonight someone suckered my buddy into buying 100 record albums for $35.. by suckered I don't think there is a large market for Henry Mancini albums. Not to mention most were in really poor shape. And he really, really can't afford to put out $35..

There were a couple gems I urged him to pull out before he sold the rest, including some short-run gospel records and some 60's rock compilations.

I'm trying to learn him the business

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

I own some domains such as 40smovies, 50smovies, and so on... so would that be '40s movies or just 40s movies?

Re: Wisconsin: Do You Collect Records?

I used to love sifting thru old bins of 78rpm records looking for rare blues or jazz records..
