What was your best (or most recent) garage sale or auction purchase?

Did you make it to many sales this year?

Do you prefer garage sales or established shops and thrift stores or dealers?

I did not go to many garage sales this summer. I noticed people seem to be asking higher prices for things, gas was just to much to spend running all over the city, and I didn't have as much money to just buy 'things' when I really don't need more things around here. lol

Also it seemed like it was just too hot and I did not have as much time this year. The summer just went by way to fast.

So with all those excuses I have to say I didn't get too many interesting bargains since I just didn't look hard enough I guess.

I did get some really good books/magazines/clothes at the Goodwill the other day when we stopped.

Now thinking over the past years I have to say one of my favorite Estate Sales was a few years ago. At the end of the last day the people were pretty much giving things away since they reduced things so drastically.

At one point the dining room still had a nice antique table and matching buffet with beautiful crystal pieces and silver and it was offered to me for 50.00 for the entire room! I thought..oh cool and said yes so fast!! Of course did I realize I then had to move it all and find places for everything?! lol But still it was fun.

I only hit a couple garage sales this summer.. had most of my luck at the thrift store or flea market. Didn't find anything for myself really but did manage a few good buys with resale in mind.

I've made so many good and sometimes one of a kind buys over the years.. here's one that comes to mind..

I had a pack of these old Laika cigarettes that I bought at a garage sale years ago for $3. I also bought maybe 40 other packs of vintage cigarettes rthe guy had including a pack from Air Force One and a pack of Russian cigarettes featuring classic Soviet worker artwork on the pack. Wish I'd kept them all as some were quite rare as unopened packs.
