The year of Fenton

It's hard to believe, but Carnival Glass is one hundred years old this year. Fenton introduced Carnival in 1907 and Northwood, Imperial, Dugan/Diamond, and Millersburg soon followed. Fenton is the only one of these companies to have survived.

What is Carnival Glass?

This is a question that confuses many people new to collecting Carnival. Primarily, Carnival Glass is pressed glass that has had an iridescent coating applied. Remember, if it isn't iridized, it isn't Carnival.
Pressed glass? This is glass that has been formed by being pressed into a mold while in a hot molten form. As it cools, it takes on the shape and detail of the mold. Once removed from the mold, and while still relatively hot, it is sprayed with metallic salts in liquid form which gives it the "oil-on-water" multicolor appearance.

Carnival Glass was first produced by Fenton in 1907 and continues to be made today. There were 5 or 6 major makers of it originally, but Fenton is the only one of the original group still in business.

Happy Birthday Fenton!!!
I have missed tons of antique sales and rummages this year due to the large number of orphaned babies this year.
I did get lucky and stop at a rummage sale while taking my daughter to her guitar lessons and I picked up a beautiful fenton basket.

My brother and his wife love Fenton and have had a few nice pieces.. I will pick the stuff up if I see it cheap, but don't really collect it (or any glassware per se)..

We picked up a piece of Fenton quite awhile ago at an Estate Sale. I have spent hours online trying to figure out what it's worth, history of it etc. Even took it to a Fenton Dealer but can't seem to find much info on it. Quite different then most of the pieces that you see. Some day when I bring it out again I will take a picture of it and post it.

Used to be I would see some nice Fenton for sale at least once at the garage sales every year.. haven't even seen anything in the local flea markets lately.
