Okay, so you've been bitten by the Depression Glass bug, and those pretty patterns and pastel colors beckon you from the shelves of an antique dealers shop, a friends home, or maybe you've even discovered this special glassware on the Internet. How ever it has come about that you've developed a yen for Depression Glass, you need to know where and how to start collecting it - unless you are made of money, have oodles of time on your hands, and don't care whether you get the real thing or not. But if you are like most of us, and those things don't apply to you, here are a few tips to get you started on the road to what may very well become a fascinating and lifelong hobby.
I just found a 'Milk Glass" mixing bowl at a rummage sale. I paid a quarter for it, and have been told that authentic 'milk glass' is a rare find. It seems to glow as light passes through it.
I feel very lucky to have this piece of depression glass. I found it at a rummage sale a few years ago. The lady knew what she was selling...she had it labeled depression glass and only asked $20.00 for this.
The etching on it is beautiful and the pic does not do it justice.
If I'm not mistaken this bowl came in a set of 3. I can't tell if this is the middle or the large one in the set. I have the small one here that I use all the time.
Carol, really love your piece you showed us. The etching on there is beautiful.

Thanks!
I had a field day today........got up at 6 am, not like I was really sleeping any how. But I hit it good at the Jefferson Swap.........boy do I have some great pieces.
Will have to share those later, I have coonie babies screaming now.
My daughter wanted to go to the Jefferson Flea market this morning...so off we went. I got lucky and found a plate (depression glass) to match the above bowl in this thread.
Only I have to refresh my memory on how to share pics.........ugh....

Old thread but just wondering: what is your favorite color or pattern of depression glass? I like green best.. tho my favorite acquisition was a set of rose Parrot wine glasses.
When I see green...green is my favorite, then I see the rose/pink color, I think oh so pretty and so that is my favorite, and then ...lol guess you get the idea. I like it all.
I used to own quite a bit of green.. some rose and a bit of yellow.. but like with most things I've owned, I never "collected".. just admired it til I needed some cash
i have a tea type set of what i was told is depression glass, however it is clear in color. it has cups, small oval saucers type plates and trays. Is anyone familiar with this type of set? what might it be worth? I would like to sell it.
We had a piece of Fenton Ware we didn't have a clue what it was worth or anything about it. We just found an antique dealer store that carried the same brand and brought it to him and asked. In your case maybe just a piece or two of the set and a picture would be good. Most antique dealers like to discuss their antiques and will let you know where you can find more info on your items.
Some places will offer to purchase or put on consignment items brought in if it's something of value or what they may be looking for. Check out the stores in your area and call around first and see if anyone would be willing to take a peek at what you have.
