Collecting Depression Glass - Where to Start
Collecting Depression Glass - Where to Start.
Okay, so you've been bitten by the Depression Glass bug, and those pretty patterns and pastel colors beckon you from the shelves of an antique dealers shop, a friends home, or maybe you've even discovered this special glassware on the Internet. How ever it has come about that you've developed a yen for Depression Glass, you need to know where and how to start collecting it - unless you are made of money, have oodles of time on your hands, and don't care whether you get the real thing or not. But if you are like most of us, and those things don't apply to you, here are a few tips to get you started on the road to what may very well become a fascinating and lifelong hobby.
To read the tips check out the following:

I just found a 'Milk Glass" mixing bowl at a rummage sale. I paid a quarter for it, and have been told that authentic 'milk glass' is a rare find. It seems to glow as light passes through it.

I feel very lucky to have this piece of depression glass. I found it at a rummage sale a few years ago. The lady knew what she was selling...she had it labeled depression glass and only asked $20.00 for this.
The etching on it is beautiful and the pic does not do it justice.

I'm not sure if this is authentic milk glass, or if it's just a white glass mixing bowl. The price was right, and I needed a mixing bowl.
That's a big picture, ain't it?
Looks like I have to take my camera in to have the auto focus checked on!

If I'm not mistaken this bowl came in a set of 3. I can't tell if this is the middle or the large one in the set. I have the small one here that I use all the time.

My guess is that this bowl is part of a set made by Fire-King. Is there any markings on it?
It's a great bowl for 25 cents!

No markings. The bowl is about 8" in diameter, and about 5" tall.
...the focus is still really bad.

Sounds like the name of a new wave punk band, or something..."Screamin' Coonie Babies"

My daughter wanted to go to the Jefferson Flea market this morning...so off we went. I got lucky and found a plate (depression glass) to match the above bowl in this thread.
Only I have to refresh my memory on how to share pics.........ugh....
