Carnival glass is pressed glass that has undergone an iridized treatment to its surface. Newly formed hot pressed glass is exposed to sprays, fumes and vapors from heated metallic oxide. This process results in a beautiful lustrous coating forming on the glass. It is often described as looking similar to the rainbow colours that appear on a soap bubble. Photographs of carnival glass do not reveal this magical effect.

Re: Carnival Glass: Like the Colours of the Rainbow
I just picked up a bottle.........can't find much on the internet
But it's tagged on the bottom Canada Dry Ginger Ale and it's marigold carnival glass! Perfect condition, not a chip or crack anywhere. Color is excellent!!
I've never seen one of these before...and can't find anything in my books either.

Excellent colors. I can't imagin the process of making this carnival glass can be good for the lungs or at least it doesn't sound like it would be good over an extended period of time.

Re: Carnival Glass: Like the Colours of the Rainbow
Last Fall we stopped at a large Antique Store in the Dells. When there I had an opportunity to talk for awhile to a sales clerk that knew a lot about Carnival Glass. She was showing me the differences to look for and how to tell what ones are actually better than others.
One thing she mentioned that I thought was interesting is the fact that some pieces especially vases are less colorful near the top or maybe on one side. This is where the sun or light has actually damaged it by taking some of the color out of the glass. If you are interested in a piece that is less sharp or faded then it is not worth as much. You need to always keep in mind that the colors need to be vibrant and even all over the piece to be considered good.

Yup this is true. I have a great book called " The art of Carnival Glass " and it shows great examples of the colors, fading, etc....and what to look for and what you just dont want.

Found some carnival glass at a garage sale last week for .25 each. Unfortunately they were all faded and chipped. Sad how some people have no respect for beautiful glassware.
