Waukesha Man Discovers Grave Stones In His Yard

Waukesha Man Discovers Grave Stones In His Yard

A Waukesha man just discovered he's been walking on grave stones which he thought were stepping stones. Two headstones of civil war veterans recovered from Waukesha yard.

Regards,
Keith

WOW!!! Very interesting!!

While I was in FL I went on the Daytona Ghost Walk. Still trying to get those pics off my camera. I helped turn over (to be read) and clean up several markers the following day when I returned in daylight.

Re: Waukesha Man Discovers Grave Stones In His Yard

An interesting tidbit about Waukesha...

The people building cemeteries didn't anticipate the fast growth of the village. In 1840 there was a cemetery somewhere between Grand and Broadway.
In 1850 they had moved the cemetery near College and East.

By 1890 they got smart and moved all the burials further "out of town" which is now known as Prairie Home cemetery.

Prairie Home has a whole section for Civil War Vets...so it wouldn't surprise me if the stones were replaced with identical ones when they moved the burials.
So probably not as creepy as it sounds.....

With that said though....many people complain that they can't get around downtown Waukesha.....whenever people complain I tell the story of how the cemeteries were moved and it is probably all the dead spirits that are causing the confusion.

More information on the Waukesha cemeteries can be found here.
