Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

I bet these are the most haunted cemeteries because they are the largest in the state.

A friend of mine and I went to Forest Home to track down a tombstone. We had the area and plot number but couldn't find it. I swore they just didn't want to be found. Especially when I came home and found a picture of the huge tombstone already online. I don't know how we missed it!

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

I did some research on this topic/subject, and the following is what I found. I think their are a few of theBubbler members living in the area of these cemeteries.

Burlington Wisconsin seems to be a magnet for ghost hunters and orb photographers. It is the home of ancient mound builders, and lies on the 'Rainbow Vortex'. The city was built on ancient burial mounds, and the bodies were never moved. From my understanding, the downtown section of the city was built over no less than 27 effigy mounds.Human bones are reported to have been found while laying out, and excavating the area for building.
Human bones were also found on the old fair grounds where the Burlington Blanket Co, later called the Burlington Mills was built, near Tower Hill on Storle Ave on the northeast side of the Fox River. Not only are there continuous reports of ghostly phenomenon and portals or gateways to dimensional worlds but there is an ancient tunnel system running under the surface of the town where strange creatures similar to the Bray Road Beast make their home. Most of the entrances to these tunnels have been sealed off but there are other entrances yet to be discovered.

In researching this story, I referred to

BUFO Paranormal and UFO On-Demand Internet Radio, UFO Talk Show, Paranormal Talk Show, UFO Radio, Paranormal Radio ,UFO, Paranormal, Anicent mysteries, Prophecies, Ancient Races and Cultures , Spirituality and Mysticism , Internet Radio at it's Fines.

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

MrKhay...I was just thinking of posting a comment about Burlington when I read yours.... This is really a very interesting area. We hope to join a group that takes you on walking tours and shows you different things to look for. You take as many pictures as you feel the need and later the group discuss the photos after the walk. You are showned what to look for in your pictures. I think the cost is maybe 20.00 a person for a tour.

After we walk though I'll post pictuers of it all. Really looking forward to taking this tour before the cold sets in otherwise we will be doing it in the Spring.

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

Apparently, The Mormons, or Later Day Saints, know all about Burlington, Wisconsin. The Mormons know the city by the name 'Voree'...and consider it to be "The New Jerusalem", while others know it as "Chocolate City USA", being the home of Nestles Chocolate. Here we find the great legend of the Mormon 'Brass Plates' which Prophet James J. Stang purportedly discovered buried in a hillside beneath the roots of a giant oak tree off what is now called Mormon Road .
In taking a walking tour of Burlington, you'll notice symbols on the architecture, old and new alike.
This sleepy little town is alive in the Occult (hidden knowledge). Symbology was used by the Founding Fathers of Burlington to help ensure and preserve the magical practices of the occult.

Yes, it's not to far, maybe about 45 mintues from us. I've always liked Burlington and started checking things about it and discovered how it was built on ancient burial mounds. Thought it was so interesting that I looked further into it and discovered so much more. Hope to visit on one of the tours they give soon.

In the mean time I just found this interesting book that I want to order and read:

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

Cemeteries give me the creeps and I don't even believe in ghosts at all. Maybe it is just the whole "death" thing that gets to me. We have a mansion here in Merrill that is supposed to be haunted:

T.B. Scott Mansion
Construction on the T.B. Scott Mansion began in 1884. The original owner, T.B Scott, owned the Warren Mill and was instrumental in getting the railroad to Jenny. He said that his house would be fit for a lumber king and he doubted if the house had an equal anywhere in the state. Unfortunately, Scott died before the house was finished.

Here begins the "curse" on the mansion. There is a tale that white men killed a indian chief's daughter. With the words, "Let this ground be sacred to my daughter's memory, and let it never do any white man any good," he put a curse on the hill where the mansion now stands. Scott was just the first of many owners to die. Countless other misfortunes, such as bankruptcy, fraud, and disappearance, have plagued the occupants of the mansion.

In 1919, the City of Merrill bought the Mansion and the surrounding 39 acres of property for $8,500. Soon after, Sisters from the Merrill community moved in and remain there to this day. The house is currently furnished with 1880's goods and is an impressive sight!

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

The Burlington Cemetery is NOT haunted and NEVER was. Nothing strange goes on there nor has it. I played in it. Walked through it about every day & night. Camped out beside it many, many nights. Camped in it one night. Lived right beside it. Every bit of what I read about hauntings there are complete untruths. This includes the older cemetery in back!

There must be a Shaman or Witch Doctor, maybe a Witch that can remove the curse.

I feel ya! I can see the old cemetery from my house, lived next to it for 10 years. You wouldn't believe how many people go up there looking for something. If you know anything about the area and a little about geology you would know this story of the town sitting on burial mounds is just silly. I,ve done a couple excavation jobs near this hill and it's native, not man made. Downtown is barely above water level, there isn't room for these layers of bodies. I have no problem with people having fun with tours or taking people's money telling stories but we should know most of it is for entertainment. The Mormon history here is kind of interesting and well documented if one wanted to explore some real Burlington history.

I bet it's haunted, and the rest of the city was built on ancestral native American burial grounds.

How do you explain the time/space vortices?

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

Quote:
We walked through several of the cemeteries in Burlington trying to see if I 'felt' anything or have orbs etc come out on any of my photos. The only thing was the sinking feeling I had standing next to one of the graves. The ground was like a sponge when you walked over a certain place by a grave but no where else and it hadn't rained. Kinda weird. But really I neither felt or saw anything close to what I read about the place.

I am curious however and maybe you can answer me. One section towards the front of one there was many black iron crosses. I have never seen a section in a cemetery that I can recall that had crosses like this. I have pictures somewhere if I can find them I will post. But I was wondering if you knew about them?

Re: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Cemeteries

I have explored countless cemeteries over the years while doing genealogy research and have never had a feeling of uneasiness or anything. That is not until I wandered through the cemetery right here in my own town! I had goosebumps and chills the whole time and I felt like someone was watching me! I think I felt that way because most of the people who had lived in my house over the last 100 or more years are buried in that cemetery. I have had the same feeling before when I'm working on my genealogy on the computer too. I feel as if someone is watching over my shoulder while I'm putting the photos and information on ancestry.com. It doesn't really freak me out though because I feel that they are probably just glad that someone is remembering them after they're long gone.

Not to change the subject but spookiest cemetery I've ever walked thru? Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rochester, NY.. full of hills and gullies and some say the grave of the real Jack the Ripper, William Streeter..

Find A Grave - Mount Hope Cemetery

I used to cut thru there quite often..
