Cat that drools!

Is it normal for a cat to drool? I know dogs drool but I didn't know that cats did it too.

One of my cats drools on me whenever I pet her and she starts purring. Does it have something to do with the way she purrs? Our other cat doesn't drool. It's not a problem except when she is on my lap or is trying to curl up around my neck.

Sure.. cats can drool.

This is funny.. Weasel was sleeping with his head in my hand yesterday.. I'd just eaten a piece of candy and I saw him sticking his tongue in and out while he was sleeping as if he was licking something.. suddenly he woke up and started sniffing and licking the hand that had had the candy in it.. good sense of smell even while sleeping!

Is it normal for a cat to drool?

Has your cat always drooled at times? If so and it occurs when you are petting her and she is purring it is associated with her feelings of being happy.


If it just recently started it could be from a problem in her mouth and you just notice it more when she is relaxed on your lap. Check her mouth and see if she has any dental problems.

Yes,she has always drooled since we've had her, but only when she's being petted and she's purring. Good point about checking her teeth though. Now, I just need to figure out how to do that and still keep my hand in tact. LOL

Every cat I ever had, drooled when she was happy and usually sitting on my lap when she was being pet.

I figured it was something to do with memories of being a kitten next to mama, and eating, all that kind of thing wrapped up in one.
