I am posting this for my sister who has to make a difficult decision.
My sister adopted a cat from the Portage County Humane Society last year. Zoe is a wonderful, beautiful, spayed, declawed and micro-chipped female. Zoe is the queen of the house and loves attention. She is the perfect lap cat. She has always been great with my nephew and never any behavioral issues. Until now.
My sister about a month ago moved in with her boyfriend who has two dogs. They have tried to give Zoe her own space but she refuses to come out of the bathroom the majority of the time. She has a huge shelf with her food, water and catbed. She will come out on occasion, but she is not happy. My sister had thought maybe to bring out the cat in her she got her a playmate. Needless to say, a week after the kitten arrived she was found laying in a pool of blood and unconscious. The kitten was only alone in the kitchen for not even 3 minutes. They thought that maybe the kitten got injured because they were remodeling and got caught on something...but at the vet clinic yesterday the vet swears it is a cat bite. Zoe has never showed any sort of mean aggression...not happy maybe but never to that degree.
She is not a happy camper. Zoe is a wonderful cat on all apsects if she could be the one and only pet in the household. I would take her in a heartbeat, but with my zoo it wouldn't be solving anything. This is heart wrenching for my sister. She loves Zoe to no end. But Zoe has proved to everyone that she is not happy. She loves all people and kids. Just not anything else with fur. My sister even has a parakeet and she has never tried to go after that.
We just think that Zoe had a hard childhood and maybe was mistreated by other animals. Who knows. All we know is she deserves to be happy. My sister knows I talk to a lot of animal lovers here on the Bubbler and maybe by word of mouth Zoe can find herself a new loving home. With all the weirdo's and animal haters out there we are being extra cautious. I hope you all can understand. Please help me help Zoe. She is very special and I just wish we could keep her in the family.
