I would honestly say ever since I talked with Keith I think that making sure your site is setup properly with the right wording that will help the most.
That's a very good point.. you can never make a second good first impression on the Net.. most times, if you don't make a good impression in the first few seconds when someone visits your site, chances are very good you'll never see them again.

It's a mix, usually. Proper SEO for your site, on-page (your site code and content) plus off-page (direct links to your site, keyword optimized anchor text, etc.) is often of first importance. Depending on budget, I would recommend a PPC (pay-per-click) ad buy, like on Google, to complement your SEO efforts. If you can only afford one, I would most often recommend SEO (though it could depend on different factors, but usually SEO will offer the most "bang for your buck").
Then I would distribute a keyword optimized, professionally written press release. I'd do it locally to key editors, as well as submitting it online to free (or paid, depending on budget) distribution services. You can also post it yourself on many local news sites.
In all, research is very important. It doesn't help to just use keywords that sound good, they need to be search terms that are going to draw traffic for your site. Plus, you should look at what the competition is doing as well.
Good points (and thanks for mentioning my book!)....content is king! Got to have good content to be able to optimize it, of course.
Having the domain name in all the right places to drive traffic to your site is mucho important. I'll add a list of places to include your domain name (from fax cover letters to music on hold to business cards, vehicles, packing slips, invoices, etc.).
Best to have your website be an integral (and the most cost-effective) part of your marketing mix.
Have you considered leads? You can buy leads(many companies on-line) and truly "target market" that way. Be careful, though, if you do that, make sure you buy from a quality lead provider.
Brad (BBsAquaticService) is also on WebLoggers WebLogging Forum - you'll see his link at the very top of every page right now. Free, with 5 good posts.
Social networking is huge. Got a $6 or 7k job this Summer via Relationships Matter | LinkedIn - the most business-like of the social networking sites.
Twitter, forums, social networks...just the time involved making connections with people.
In order for Twitter to be effective at all as a marketing tool, you have to aggressively maintain your followers and who you follow.. I tend to follow only those with similar interests and geographical location.
More and more I find it's of immense importance to continually fine-tune and trim your followers to suit your focus.. doesn't help to tweet to the 'deaf"..

I'm very active online. YouTube, Facebook, email newsletters, and thinking of adding Twitter. Regular communication keeps Body Essentials "top of mind."
I find Twitter helps me alot.. I also tweet alot during the day and keep an archive of my tweets here so I can refer back to them and keep track of what I've tweeted and how well I'm doing day to day..

If you're serious about tweeting and Twitter, you need to continually analyse and seek out your strong points: which tweets are most effective? what times are best for tweeting for maximum exposure, etc.
Mobile Marketing is ramping up to be the next big thing! My advice would be to start capturing phone numbers at every corner. The open rates of text messages are over 90% compared to 20% for emails.
In fact, I go further and predict fewer people will use the internet because of the growth of smart phones. More people are comfortable using a phone than a computer as well.

Obviously getting a great looking site with the right words and lots of links to it is great, but I am becoming more and more convinced that reviews are the key to true success. Get reviews from many different places (sites and directories). I think the pages with reviews on them end up giving more link juice to your site. Make sure the reviews are from real people from thier real accounts, I beleive Google monitors this.
So the best thing is to give great service to your customers and then lead them the water to tell everyone about it.

Love the use of my smart phone however the screen size is not convenient for viewing large quantities of information and sometimes not all of the information shows up like it does when I review it in on my computer. I would lean towards the computer in some aspects and others my smart phone.
Big fan of contests, give a ways and sweepstakes for promoting your business and building relationships.

Indeed getting REAL Reviews from REAL customers cannot hurt - but where are they posting these reviews?
I'm guessing by your comment that you were referencing Google Places - Reviews - this link points to our Places Page where the Reviews are found on the bottom of the page. I believe that there is a similar Reviews area for Yahoo Local, and there are a few others as well - Many directories source into these as well.
