Local Milwaukee TV Channel 12 reported tonight that
ShoreWEST, Wisconsin's largest home seller, is pulling ALL of their advertising from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. ShoreWEST claims to be one of the Milwaukee daily's top five advertisers.
According to a company spokesperson, ShoreWEST will do more billboards, radio and TV and work intensely on their internet presence; a survey suggested that buyers were using means other than the newspaper to make buying decisions.
Some of the reasons may, IMHO, go back to "A settlement in the class action lawsuit by
Shorewest Realtors on behalf of advertisers in the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel may be finalized at a hearing scheduled Sept. 29. this may go back to a lawsuit" in 2006. Above from
Judge may finalize Shorewest settlement with Journal - The Business Journal of Milwaukee:
Whatever the reason, most US daily newspapers are in a downward circulation spiral with heavy pressure from customers' alternatives, including television and the internet.
