I have never been a great person for advertising and I am looking for help on how to get my business out there for the public to see. Anyone have and reasonable and not so costly ways to do it.
Seems to me you came to the right place to ask. You could start with putting something in the forums about it, move into the classifieds, and have Keith's dream team put togehter something for you to. A banner on the bubbler may be of interest?

This is a great place to become visible--there are members online pretty much all the time and even more people just looking (lurking). A banner ad here is a great idea.
You have all the "basics" covered, right? Signs on your vehicles, yard signs for new customers, web site, presence at home shows, etc.
The most cost effective way is business cards. Have a simple web site for your services and contact information. Include your web site address and email and phone numbers on the card. Vistaprint is a web site printing company that I have used and their prices are good. You can design the card on their site and have your cards in days. I printed extra information on the back of my cards. Signs for your car is also a good and cheap way to advertise just make sure your phone number is big.
I have done homeshows, No sign in front yard but I am working on it., Sign on car got it, website got it, article in local paper got it, I guess I want more business but its not comming fast enough.
where do I got to get a decent banner made for online.
It all depends on what you mean by decent. There's websites that let you make free banners, some even let you add a background image.
If you want flash then you'll pay more.
As for ideas for more business, I have one. Start a sweepstakes on your website. Let it run for a month and the lucky winner wins xx prize/service. Mail out a special each month to the new members and turn the members to customers. Just don't spam, you'll get a bad rap.
Word of mouth is a great promoting idea. And it is FREE. Most of my business and rescues have came in by word of mouth. From the Milwaukee Zoo all the way to the East Coast. Not to mention Brad.....a sincere, dedicated, hard working, friendly guy that you are will get clients in no time at all.

Your photo gallery needs a LOT MORE WORDS.
"A picture is worth a thousand words." True enough, but the words are often more powerful. That seven-word phrase, "A picture is worth a thousand words," is over 2,000 years old! That's powerful! On the internet, the picture is inexpensive and important - but it is the words that you found! Search engines find words better than pictures and people search using words. Take a look at these sites and you'll see keyword density and search engine optimization using those keywords:
Home - Intelegist, LLC
- generated over 900 search phrases resulting in a visit to the site in one month (some phrases used once, some used fifty times)

IMHO, you need to define your service area on your site. Extend the service area for an additional fee.

Go after Maintenance contracts. No money is selling a one-time deal, much more in establishing regular (monthly?) visits.

We offer a referral fee for word of mouth - a check for $100 to the referrer or their favorite charity - for a referral that results in a new regular hosting client.
For you, the same for a referral that results in an installation and maintenance account.
Humbly suggest you find a high-traffic beauty salon, bowling alley, movie theater, etc. where you setup demo tanks at no/reduced charge for advertising on the side of the tank, referral business cards and brochures at counter or in literature display mounted on side of tank.

I dont even know really where to start on getting those. I know when I go to wausau I am going to be stoping at more places to drop off my brochures. But is that really an effective way. I have never been really good at advertising but hiring someone to do that costs more then I can afford.

Businesses!
Dentists' offices, doctors' offices, lawyers' offices - places that kids frequent - places where they want to make the wait enjoyable - or where the longer one waits, the more they spend (the bar adjoining the restaurant).
Those same patrons may want you at their homes, too.
1/2 off an install and/or an hour of training (on feeding, etc.) with a 12-month contract to maintain at only $1 a day ($365 for the year)...etc.

Call them up. Phone calls less than gas. Email less than printing. Have reasons for them to get your products and services. Follow up (with permission) with a single email with pictures and complete contact info and a deal or two, links to more pictures on your site, etc.
