Burnett County, created in 1856 from Polk County, is named after state legislator Thomas P Burnett. Located in northwest Wisconsin, the county seat is Meenon (Siren).

Natural Vegetation Mostly pine barrens (jack pine and prairie grasses). Along the St Croix River: willows, soft maple, and ash. West: small areas of sedges, blue joint, and cordgrass. South: red and white pine and conifer swamp (black spruce, tamarack and cedar).
