He discovered that alcoholic fermentation of sugars is caused by yeast enzymes and not by the yeast cells themselves. Zymase, part of the enzyme system causing fermentation, was discovered by him in 1903.
Who is he?

One of the residents to deliver a healthy baby boy last year was Dr. August. Her pregnancy is also of note because it was the longest recorded human gestation on record. Dr. August was pregnant for a staggering 17 months 11 days.

oh..you make me shutter! 17 months! Way to long to be pregnant! lol
I had 4 babies and all was high risk. My first one I had almost 7 weeks early, the rest 2 weeks early. I almost lost my own life and that of my oldest son.... 17 months?? No way! lol
Anyways, the person I am thinking about was born in 1954. After almost being sold off to pay for the surgery his mom had to deliever him he grew up to become a well known actor. Does that help?

Dear gods, 17 months? 8O
I'm shuddering here too. Mine was late enough at 9 mo, 1 week. By that point I was so ready to able to walk on my own again... I can't even IMAGINE 17 months.

well..well...well...it seems no one is getting this one and here I thought it was going to be a fast one!
OK, I"m going to give you everything but the person's name! Not sure what else to do but give the answer next! lol
Here's the clues:
(name?) waited a few months longer than other children to be born--instead of nine months, he took twelve. Those three extra months forced his mother to have a caesarean section, and when (name?) finally emerged, he was a whopping twelve pounds! On April 7th, 1954, (name?) was born in Hong Kong. The operation that his mother was forced to have put the family in severe debt, and the father nearly sold the newborn boy in order to pay the hospital. Luckily, his friends stepped in and raised enough money to keep little (name?) in the family.
(name?) grew up in poverty in Hong Kong until about the age of six. Then, in 1960, his family moved to Australia where his father took a job as a cook for the Australian Embassy. (name?) did so poorly in school there that he was never traditionally educated past the American equivalent of first grade. Instead, when he was seven, his family sent him back to Hong Kong to join the Peking Opera School. It was here that (name?) learned martial arts, acrobatics, singing, dancing and acting. He lived at the School until the age of 17, when he struck out on his own.
WHO IS HE???
