Animal Cruelity!
Why are some folks so cruel? I'm totally outraged at reading about these individuals whom treat animals this way. Would you trust folks that you know to have done something awful toward our animal/bird counterparts to be around your children?
Last year while I still residing in Oshkosh at Menominee county park, some person thought it would be funny to decapitate a mother duck leaving her ducklings to die a slow and cold death. I was very pleased when I found out about an arrest, although I do think they should have served more time behind bars.
PS: the ducklings were rescued and raised at the local zoo.
As an animal activist for all species I would like to remind everyone that these are also God’s children.

Police search for suspect in animal cruelty case
Bottle rockets found strapped to dead goose
By Paul Srubas psrubas@greenbaypressgazette.com
Green Bay police are looking for someone who taped fireworks to a Canada goose, ignited them and killed the bird. On Dec. 23, someone reported finding the dead bird in a driveway of the 2900 block of Gilbert Drive, on the city's east side. The police department's humane officer found the carcass with spent explosives taped to it. Police are investigating it as an act of cruelty to animals, which can bring a charge carrying a maximum penalty of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Lt. Dave Wesely of the Green Bay Police Department described the explosives as bottle rockets.
Green Bay Police officers recently went through training to identify signs of neglect to animals when responding to calls that may not be directly related to animals, said Capt. Greg Urban. Recognizing those signs may lead to bigger things through investigation.

Thank you for posting this, Amber. It makes me absolutely sick to read this, but we need to be aware of animal cruelty and work to stop it. Often criminals that murder or mame humans have a history of animal cruelty. As shown with the heroin trafficing in puppies this week, many people think of animals as disposable. Animals can't speak for themselves so we have to speak and act for them!
As a pet owner, I'd love to rescue every homeless or abused animal out there but I know this is not practical. Supporting legitimate shelters and rescues financially or by volunteering can make a huge difference. Organizations like the ASPCA are also great resources for the news in animals rights and legislation.

Any links to where one can report this...or where one can report any cases in general? I would imagine local police.

March 10,2006 Oshkosh Northwestern
Animal abuse charges filed in dog neglect case
By Alex Hummel
of The Northwestern
In the end, Valentine looked nothing like the stocky, stereotyped image of a pit bull. The 5-month-old puppy was hairless, gaunt and bruised.
The photos are hard to look at. And they are one more result of a cruel twist: Long-maligned pit bulls are increasingly the victims – not aggressors – in Oshkosh, part of what Oshkosh Area Humane Society leaders call a "disturbing" trend of abuse and deaths for a stereotyped dog.
Animal cruelty charges are pending against Valentine's owner who so neglected the puppy that she died "emaciated and lethargic with severe skin issues.", according to Humane Society and the Oshkosh Police Department, Valentine.
"Pit bills by virtue of genetics are very social dogs," said OAHS Executive Director Joni Geiger. "They are really sweet social, friendly dogs. To see them physically abused by their owners or other people involved with them – it's a real shame, and it's very cruel."
Valentine was brought to shelter on Feb. 13. She was subsequently euthanized after Lakeside Veterinary Hospital doctors concluded she was too severely malnourished to save.
"This is something that had to occur over several weeks at a minimum to reach such a severe condition," Lakeside's Dr. John Popp stated in a release announcing pending charges against Valentine's owner.
In January, a severely injured pit bull was discovered in the town of Black Wolf. Officials initially thought the dog, dubbed "Sophie" by shelter staff, was the victim of dog fighting because of puncture wounds to her head, feet and body and had one of her ears torn off.
An investigation ruled out dog-fighting, but left unanswered how the dog was injured.
Sophie had to be destroyed based on the severity of the injuries.
Geiger said the humane society ran into another disturbing pit-bull case recently. A younger dog was found decapitated near the city's railroad tracks. The dog was apparently dead before someone deliberately placed it on the railroad line, she said.
Why they are increasing is anybody's guess, Geiger said. It's possible the pit bull violence stems from the breed's popularity and glamorization as pets for a criminal element.
"It's not just because we have suddenly started to notice it," she said. "There has been a rash of this. If it's because there are more of these breeds in our community and therefore they are being mistreated, I don't know."

Another Sad Case
Critter Beating
WLUK Website
March 10, 2006
MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) - Seven high school students face illegal hunting charges for clubbing small game animals to death in what they referred to as "critter beating," a conservation warden says.
The students, who attend high school at Kiel about 20 miles southwest of Manitowoc, began the activities in spring of 2004, and the majority of it happened between May and October of last year, said Warden Robert Stroess of the state Department of Natural
Resources.
He said they would go at night and shine a light in an animal's face to immobilize it before attacking.
"They were going out and shining for animals, and one or more of them would beat the animal to death with a golf club, a baseball bat, garden tools, a hockey stick and a metal pipe," Stroess said.
The charges include 25 citations for hunting violations, Stroess said.
The students are scheduled for initial appearances in Manitowoc County Circuit Court April 19, he said.
If convicted, they face fines, revocation of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses and confiscation of hunting equipment, Stroess said.
 What is wrong with all these turds?

FOX 11 WLUK
Critter Beatings
April 20, 2006
MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) - Three of the seven high school students accused of killing wild animals in a sport they called "critter beating" were fined hundreds of dollars after two pleaded guilty and one pleaded no contest in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Four others charged in the case pleaded not guilty.
The seven teens from Kiel High School faced a total of 155 warnings and 25 citations from the state Department of Natural Resources, including firearms violations, shining wild animals, hunting in closed season and other violations in Manitowoc County, according to DNR warden Robert Stroess.
Most of the activity was last year, but some occurred in 2004, he said.
"They were going out and shining for animals, and one or more of them would beat the animal to death with a golf club, a baseball bat, garden tools, a hockey stick and a metal pipe," he said. He said the students gave it the name of "critter beating."
The fines handed down for three teens Wednesday ranged from $689 to $806. Each had hunting, fishing and trapping privileges suspended for one year.
The four who pleaded not guilty will have pretrial hearings scheduled.

Those individuals responsible for this incident are most likely deficient in certain human personality traits. Their behavior is an outrage. They apparently need some counselling, or reprogramming, because there obviously has'nt been a sence of respect for fellow living beings. Our society has been giving individuals like these the blind eeye for too long. Being as they were youths, a good look at what the parents are/were telling their children as to the right and wrongs of killing is.

31 Neglected Cats Euthanized
31 Neglected Cats Euthanized
WGBA-TV
June 5
Dozens of cats taken from an Appleton home last week, have all been put down. The Humane Society says all of the cats tested positive for feline leukemia. The cats were taken from the home after a welfare check on an Appleton home turned up more than forty cats living in unhealthy conditions. The house was later declared uninhabitable by authorities.
The Fox Valley Humane Associated was waiting to place the cats until some preliminary tests came back. Today, we learned that all of the cats tested positive for feline leukemia. That's a deadly and contagious disease that could have been prevented through routine veterinary care.
The Humane Association got the tests back on Friday. They then euthanized the 31 remaining cats over the weekend. Earlier in the week, ten other cats died, seven were stillborn and three others died less than 24 hours after being born.
Officials say feline leukemia is passed through blood and saliva... so it would have been very easy for the neglected cats to pass it on to each other.
