Sears is among the brands that may disappear soon. How many remember the days of our Mom's buying everything through the Sears Catalog or going to the store for school clothes or applianaces?
How about the other brands on the list? Will you miss any of them or even notice that they are gone?
I certainly remember when I was a kid and Sears was the place to go. We lived in Zion and the Sears Store was in Waukegan so it was fun when it was time to go shopping and we got out of town. lol
Anyways, the store was really big with 3 floors and I use to always get to run up to the top floor to sit on the bed of 'my dream' bedroom. It was a little girls all white canopy bed set. Oh how i wanted that set!
As a kid, it wasn't just Sears catalog. There was JCPenney and Montgomery Ward. I see that MW is still online, so they are around yet. In town here we had a JCP store and then it closed and reopened at another location. That one closed some time ago. Sears had a really small store here, but that was mostly for catalog pick up. We still have a small Sears store at another location. I've never been in it.
We used to sit and look through those thick catalogs often, but the internet changed all that.
Sony Pictures surprises me. I would have thought they were doing well.
A&W was my first fast food job back when I was 17. Not surprised they may vanish, figured they would have long ago.
Saab, American Apparel and Sony Ericsson could have been gone already & I wouldn't even know it.
Sears & Kmart hmmm I shop both now because they are located next to eachother (of course) and are close to home, but wouldn't miss either one, I'd just drive a mile further down the road & pay a better price. Looks like Kmart wont close even if sears does though, from the article.
NO NO NO NOT MY KELLOGGS POPS! actually, haven't had them in a while, but i do like them.
Soap digest.. I would have thought that reading it online would have put them out of business years ago!
Myspace is still hanging on? I should remove my stuff from there & close it out... pointless.
Nokia was my very first phone... they still make some ugly phones compared to any other brand.
I hate to see all those people lose their jobs.
but you know there will be finger pointing on both ends.

We called them "wish books" as a kid.. loved thumbing thru them.. now we have the internet for browsing tho I would still prefer the old catalogs!
I love the internet! But browsing through a catalog is sometimes easier. I go on Fashion Bug's site to check out the clothes and get so annoyed by the slowness of waiting for the page to load, or clicking and waiting for the picture to enlarge, or...much faster to just turn a page and read and move on when looking at a catalog, or throwing the catalog in my van and checking it out when I'm sitting waiting for one of the kids.
But on the other hand, the internet is far easier to just look up different stores and browse around then carrying a ton of catalogs with you. Or checki out stores that may not send out catalogs. Or find all the options or sales at once by browsing the web for something. So each way has it's good points.

It WAS actually called the Sears Wish Book, at least when I was a kid. I always wanted a GIANT AFX slot car track.
I am truly surprised that Sears is still around. My father worked at Sears his whole working life and retired at 47 years old!! I worked at Sears Brookfield back in the 80's. When the doors opened on a weekend morning, people were waiting outside. From opening until about 5:00, the place was crazy busy. I used to restock garage door openers every couple hours. Now, the store is darn near empty. Too bad, really. Before my time, you could buy a house from the Sears catalog. Also, they sold snowmobiles. Sears snowmobiles were made by Polaris.

I know mechanics who wont use any tools besides Craftsman. I wonder if Kmart will carry the line after Sears closes.
I'm pretty sure I have seen Craftsman tools at K-mart before so my guess is they will have a more full line of tools now. I am surprised that Sears would go down before K-Mart. At least judging that by our Sears and our K-Mart. The Sears here is still pretty good and I like the Super Sears in Gurnee Mills Mall (Illinois) but our K-Mart is not the best. Always hot in the summer, dingy, products are not good etc. Just a low rated Walmart style with alot less to pick from and higher prices.
But time will tell. Maybe if they close the Sears they will up grade the K-mart stores.

Never got it but still have the memories of it.
My Dad had $5 or 10 and shot pool the night before my sister's 9th or 10th birthday, then bought that bedroom set for cash on her birthday.

I was a short order cook at the Sears Coffee Shop at Brookfield Square in the early 70s. That place was jumpin' too.
Seems to me they got out of the catalog business just as catalog / mail order boutique shopping took off. They were definitely late to the internet party, too.

Had friends in high school who worked part-time at the Automotive Service Center at Sears Brookfield. Worked there all the way through college. Guys who are still friends I admire today. Engineering grads of MSOE with good jobs who renovate old cars as a hobby, they met their goal of working their ways through school AND owning every tool they'd ever need through employee discounts and sales by the time they graduated from college.
The Levi brand should be on this list.
The only pants I would buy was Levi, other than Dockers. Then Levi sold out, they had their clothes made overseas and just slapped the Levi tag on. I was a devoted customer, not anymore.
