Re: Daily Affirmations. Small Joys. Counting Your Blessings.
Defending Your Life is a great movie.. it's main focus is that the biggest "sin" is being afraid.. afraid to try, afraid to change, afraid to persevere..
Re: Daily Affirmations. Small Joys. Counting Your Blessings.
Good idea for a topic. So many times we forget the little things throughout the day as we hurry about getting things done.
Hubby and I took a drive to Eagle today around the winding roads and then took the scenic route back home. We saw lots of cranes, some turkeys, hawks, vultures, and a couple herons. We also saw llamas, a small donkey, these little sheep and cows with pink painted butts. Some new fangled thing where they paint the butts of the cows to tell when ol' bessie has, well, you know.

The lottery scratch off I bought for St. Pat's day hasn't lost yet. All I won was $1 or $2 each time, but I didn't end up at zero yet. Maybe next time it will be $100.
Re: Daily Affirmations. Small Joys. Counting Your Blessings.
There's a Biblical principal about having joy in your sufferings.
A few months ago I got a flat tire on my way to work. Sucked. But, we didn't have a snow storm and it wasn't freezing cold that day. I have a car that has tires, and a good spare. I have a job to go to. I have the ability to change a tire, etc.
Hard to think of those types of things in the midst of suffering, but it really helps keep you from getting angry and then sinning in some way. Also, it's not about being unrealistically optimistic, it's about being reminded of what your suffering points to.

Yeah...to a lesser extent, I can understand. I've not suffered like you guys are - although degress of suffering can be relative (or relatives cause suffereing...lol). I had been laid off for an extended amount of time, and people kept telling my wife and I how we are a great example of dealing with stressful situations. We kept thinking "We don't want to be examples anymore!"
I like to read about Job or others in the Bible who've suffered and how they dealt with it.
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4

What some people see as you (or anyone) handling it well, doesn't really show what goes on inside your head. People can put on a good front when facing others, but they can't see or even understand what is going on inside. Usually what people see is the situation, but not what is going on at the emotional level. I can usually tell by people's reactions if they really get it.

So true, but tell me, why does it take soooo long get through to the hope part.

Yeah, not to be Debbie Downer in a happy topic, but why does it take so dang long? All the bible verses in the world won't bring my husband's hearing back to normal, for example. I don't think there's joy in that. What's he supposed to say, "Yeah! I lost half of my hearing. That's awesome, now I can learn to read lips."
Since this is supposed to be a "count your curses...err, I mean, blessings thread, I guess I have to come up with something else. How about raspberry cordial frozen custard at Culver's today?
Re: Daily Affirmations. Small Joys. Counting Your Blessings.
I will waste not even a precious second today in anger or hate or jealousy or selfishness. I know that the seeds I sow I will harvest, because every action, good or bad, is always followed by an equal reaction. I will plant only good seeds this day.

I should have you meet some Cambodians I know - people who lost all their family and possesions during the Khmer Rouge days. Some lost body parts, etc. They are some of the most joyful people I've met. This doesn't minimize anything that anyone is going through, just an example of how people can be joyful even with suffering. It comes with a reliance on Christ, who gives us the faith we need to make it through every day.
I pray your husband's hearing would come back. I also pray my good friend's uncle would be safe. He was just kidnapped in Mexico for a $50,000 ransom. She is devastated, but I saw pure joy as she was worshiping with us on Sunday. Doesn't make her better than those who don't have that joy, just makes her more joyful and shows her strong faith. I pray my faith could be that strong, and I also pray that I don't have to show it either!

What an inspiring post, thank you.
I always try to remember when facing difficult times in my life (and I've had PLENTY, and going through alot right now), that when you think you have it bad, there is always someone out there much worse off. Be thank you you aren't made to trade places for a day with them.
Re: Daily Affirmations. Small Joys. Counting Your Blessings.
BA, I'm very aware that there are always people who have it worse...but on the other hand there's lots of people who have it better. So, what's my point? Heck, I don't know. LOL
One thing I do know is that I don't like when people tell us how we should feel about things. Don't these people realize that we've already thought about all those things and more? When someone is going through a hard time, just listen to them. Don't give that advice that they didn't ask for. We've been getting that often enough and always from people that haven't been through anything serious yet. Just listen, be sympathetic and that person going through the hard time will think you're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I sure hope that your friend's uncle has a safe return. How scary that must be. This is why I wouldn't go to Mexico with all the violence going on right now. I can't imagine how helpless she must feel.

Today I shall get pure enjoyment out of throwing back the tree branches on to our neighbor's lawn after they placed them in our yard. Not sure why they did that, but just because they are lazy doesn't mean I'll do their landscaping for them. This will be fun. Toss, toss, toss! The things I can do when they aren't home..hehehehe.
