Apparently it's NOT the "thought that counts" anymore.. or is it?

(I have a neighbor that hand-decorates each card she sends out, clipping pictures out and pasting them to the cards. Takes her days to do her card list. Each card is unique and special. Keep that in mind if you ever receiive a card this way.)

Every b-day, holiday, special day, my sister for years has sent out her own cards she makes on the computer and we always look forward to them.

Anyone can go to a store and just pick up a card and buy it letting some unknown person think of the words inside. But it takes someone special that will take the time to make an original card just to fit the person they care enough to send the card to.

I would have taken the money and thanked them for the extra cash to put into my 'real' cards and then let them know they won't know about how nice the extra money helped make the cards since they will no longer be receiving one.

To bad the lady didn't leave her name and email. I would ask her to send me a card each year.

It's sad that a complete stranger would love her cards but her 'friends and family' could not appreciate them.

That's weird. I would love to get a handmade card. It takes time and thought with lots of love thrown in.

A group of online designer friends of mine started exchanging cards a few years ago. I did it 2 years ago and I'm doing it again, but I already told them it will be middle of winter cards since I'm pretty busy right now with the hubbby. With that bunch you feel cheap if get store bought cards. We look forward to homemade ones, not that it's a requirement. Some do buy store bought, but it seems extra care goes into buying something meaningful. Last year I didn't get in on the exchange but a couple of them still sent me stuff. I even got a scarf from Australia with an aborigine pattern on it and what it meant. You just never know what you'll get. I've never seen anything like that come from friends or relatives. Designers are fun people to exchange things with. I know some of them do a doodle swap every so often. I've never gotten in on that since I don't belong to the forum that they do. I have enough time wasters, but I'm sure eventually I'll join in.

Yeah, my elderly neighbor buys a dollar box of cards but always adds personal drawings or cutouts to her cards to personalize them.. if someone has a dog, she'll glue a cutout of a dog on the card. Our complex manager likes penguins so she always puts penguins on her card.. she puts alot of thought and work into her cards. She can't afford much but she can afford being thoughtful and caring.. it's the extra effort that makes her cards special.

Can you imagine if a family member collected these wonderful cards through out the years. Then if someone in the family was doing genealogy on the family tree what a great addition it could have been to add these cards to the collection?

My sister has a whole room dedicated to her research and just to think if she came across someone that had really olden homemade cards to add would have been so exciting.

I realize the cards that this lady was making isn't old, but it will they will be someday in the future.

Sad how people have become.
