Dec 8, 1980. On this date deranged gunman Mark David Chapman shot and killed rock star John Lennon outside his apartment building as he returned from a recording session. The death of the former Beatle, who was an international peace activist, shocked the world. His widow, Yoko Ono, asked for 10 minutes of silence at 2 PM, EST, on the following Sunday, Dec 14, and many US and international radio stations observed it.

wow, has it been that long? I remember posting this on a forum on the 25th anniversary of his death. I started my post as, "It was 25 years ago today." That was kind a reference to the Sgt Pepper's lyrics. It just doesn't seem like 5 years ago that I posted that on that forum. Then again it doesn't seem like 7 years ago when I joined that forum and I still keep in touch with a lot of the people and have even met some of them in real life.

On another note, in Jan. the space shuttle explosion will be 25 years. That's another major event that people remember what they were doing when it happened. How can this be that long ago?

I remember this so clearly when we heard it on the radio. I was sitting on my bed looking through a book when it was announced that he was dead. I felt like the air left the room. Sad, sad day.

Yes, another very sad time in our history. Again, I remember this so clearly. I had a very small T.V. in our kitchen on the shelf and I had it on while I was baking. I remember hearing the news and looking at the screen and couldn't understand at first what I was actually seeing. Just didn't want to believe I was standing there in the quiet of my kitchen watching as something so important and sad was unfolding. Another sad, sad day.
