No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

So, what else has changed since childhood that you miss?

(I used to love getting toys in my cereal, cracker jacks, and even when I bought Poll Parrot shoes)..

Poll Parrot Shoes??? Never heard of them.

But I do remember when I was a young kid my mother use to buy laundry detergent that had a free towel in it. She also would get free dishes such as a free plate, cup, etc. I have couple sets of dishes that she collected way back then.

So I will say that I wish they would still put something useful like that in the boxes of detergent.

Oh, just thought.... I only buy liquid detergent now. Back then my Mom only used powder. Did they even have liquid back then??

Re: No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

I miss S&H green stamps! Anyone remember them?

Love to pour over the catalog and see what we could save up for next. There was a S&H stamp store in Waukegan, IL where you we would go and stand in line and then have them go through our saved filled up books to make sure we did not miss any pages and then pick up our item we choose.

Re: No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

Since we like to talk about food, it always seems like they get rid of things I like to eat.

Peanut butter graham crackers

There was chocolate yogurt that tasted more like chocolate pudding. Healthy Choice, maybe?

Bread machine mixes in chocolate, pumpkin and cinnamon.

Lemon Chiffon cake mix. It was like angel food, but lemon.

Pillsbury cornbread sticks

Ok, that's a start.

Re: No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

I miss good quality food at decent prices.. bread is a good example. If you don't pay the buck and buy cheap bread, you might as well be buying styrofoam because it doesn't hold together or it's dry right out of the bread wrapper..

Re: No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

We buy Brownberry bread a lot. I don't know if you have that there, but it's made in Wis. I always buy whole wheat. Better for you and more flavor. I find white bread boring and don't we already have enough foods lacking fiber? Buy it on sale and throw a loaf in the freezer.

TP is so darn expensive. I feel ripped off no matter what I buy.

Years ago we use to buy a Jello desert that after you pour it into the tall glass dish it would form into different layers. Can't remember what it was called but it was good.

I also miss 7 up Candy Bars.

Love Brownberry bread.

As far as finding good bread, cheap, we have a Wonder Bread outlet store just blocks away from the kids high school that I like to stop at. The bread is really reduced compared to the store and it's still great to eat. Always a good way to save.

Have you tried WOODMAN'S Grocery Store? (do you even have one by you?)

So many times I think that something is gone for good when I can't find it anywhere and then I will shop at Woodman's and find it on the shelf. They seem to have everything.

We have Woodman's in Madison. I always hear things about one being built closer to Brookfield area, but it never seems to happen.

I like to go there to find things that other stores might not have. Sendik's has some other different items also, but are a bit more expensive.

One can always look online to see if the product is even made yet before running around looking for it.

LOL that question sounds funny, but just peanut butter flavored graham crackers. Same as having chocolate ones. Think of the possibilities of using them for graham cracker crumb crusts or for s'mores. They were good even plain.

It was always fun saving the box tops from cereal and sending away for a free toy, then watching the mail every day after waiting four to six weeks for it to arrive. My sisters and I all got the free Storykin Dolls from Post Toasties that way. I had gotten the Cinderella one with her coach which I still have, but several years ago, I bought all three of them MIB off ebay. I can't believe someone had them and never took them out of the box...they were so much fun to play with! They are selling for about $25 each now and the cereal box is going for $125 on ebay!

lol guess it was pretty self explanatory. I guess I was thinking two graham crackers with peanut butter in between? But I don't recall ever seeing anything like that before. But then I don't think I ever saw peanut butter flavored graham crackers either.

Re: No Toys In Your Cereal Box? What Else Do You Miss?

Yuck, I don't think I would like that all soggy.

I even eat my cereal fast so it doesn't get soggy and sometimes I only fill my bowl halfway and eat that, then fill it halfway again. Soggy is yucky.
