Today is Middle Name Pride Day! What is your middle name?
When : Always March 10th
Middle Name Pride Day honors the seldom used middle name that often sets you apart from others. It was selected with care, so you should be proud of it.
To be honest, I don't know my middle name! All my life I was told it was Ross (after my uncle). Then about 15 years ago, I applied for a job and they got a call from Social Security saying that name didn't match their records! Turns out Ross wasn't on my birth certificate but Allen was! Now here I'd been told that David "Alan" was my first name and Ross was my second or middle name.. I hadn't even been spelling Allen correctly. I'm so confused!
Sorry Dave but that seems like a strange story not to know your actual name. I do recall you mentioning your Mother so I am guessing you grew up with her, didn't you ever see her fill out school forms, tax papers etc?
I am even a bit confused, your actual first name is David Alan? and your second one is Ross? But Ross isn't on the birth record so then your name is really only David Alan? Why the confusion, surely someone can tell you what that is all about?
Kinda sad actually to go through so many years of not knowing I would think.
My middle name is Marie. It was my mom's oldest sister's first name. She was the family genealogist. Guess maybe that's why I'm so into family history now.
I've noticed that it is becoming more common for people to give their children two middle names. I have a niece who's name is Rachel Jena Juanita. She was given the same middle names that both of her grandmothers have.

My oldest daughter's middle name is Marie.
It wasn't until after I picked her full name out that I found out her great great? grandmother on her father's side had the same name. That was pretty cool to find out she had a family name and I didn't even know it at first.
My grandson has 2 middle names too. The first one is for both Grandfathers (they are both 'Michael) and the second one is for his great grandfather on his Dad's side. Works well that way.
I'd always signed everything David Alan and that's how it was on my school papers and my military papers it's David "Allen" Ross - when Social Security called, that was the first I'd heard Ross was not on my birth certificate.. except for my two brothers, one of whom is named Brian Keith Clark (Gridley), there's no one to ask how or why. I was told the David Alan came from a men's clothing story in Miami. I always thought my dad's first name was David but it turns out it was Hubert David.
You think that's strange, think how I feel.. I was called by my nickname "D.A." all my life by everyone who knew me until I moved out here.. no one knows me by that name here. Still seems strange to me when someone calls me David or Dave.

For many years, it seemed that anyone I developed a crush on was named Marie (first or middle name).. I was beginning to feel like Superman (who always had connections with "LL" in their name, like Lois Lane or Lana Lang)

15 yrs ago would have made you late 30's or early 40's? was it your first job? no drivers license? or anything else that needed a birth record? even to apply for a state ID or whatever, you would have surly seen your birth certificate before that age, right? Ever been married or gone outside the USA? Was it you that said you were in the Service back in the day? It's hard to believe that anyone could go half their life & never need the single most important legal document of anyones life.
I'd never post my last name on a forum, chat site, social network site etc...
I have no middle name. Mexicans use the mothers maiden name as a middle name, so we end up with two last names on record basically... I dropped the middle name at the same time i dropped my moms first 3 husbands last names off my birth certificate lol I now only have my first & real dads last name.

wow! I hope to god that our Military does a better job of checking stuff out these days!
I was in the service and had various forms of identification.. it never came up prior to that or if it did, no one mentioned it. It surprised me as much as anyone else. I still use David Alan and no one has mentioned it since (other jobs).
As far as the last name, it's part of my username.. people can go ahead and steal my identity. If they can make more of it than I could, more power to them.
I take that back, I actually did have an employer steal my passwords and one email account in the past. That's right, an employer..

My middle name is Kay. Neither my first or middle name is named after anyone that I know of. I never asked.
My mom and her sister's middle names all rhyme with mine.
MY middle name is KAY!
And get this: I am in the dog-business, right? My initials are AKC
Perfect.
Both of my brothers do not have middle names. I asked my Mom why and she said that they just couldn't agree on any......so they left it at that.
"Kay" was given to me in honor of my Aunt, who was also my Godmother.
My parents both had middle names that were THEIR Mothers' maiden names.

Reason: Cuz i'm a dork! LOL

I'm not the only dork. I know this is minor, but enough to change the number a bit. I meant my mom and her sisters' names since she has 2 sisters, not one. Their middle names are Fay, Rae and Mae. We all rhyme.

One thing I always tried to do when naming each of our children is watch what initials would look like or spell out. Then my grand daughter comes along and her mom decided at the last minute to use her last name rather then my son's last name so instead of my grand daughters initials being A.S.B. it is now A.S.S.
Bet she will be glad when she grows up and gets married and has the option to change her last name!
