We all like to buy raffle tickets and enter contests. Have you ever won something great in a drawing or from a raffle? How about a cool door prize you received or maybe a contest where you won something really awesome? Tell us about your good fortune.
$10,000 from our credit card company in a drawing they had. Of course taxes came out of that. Ended up using in on school and bills. Didn't get to buy anything fun with it. waaah.
Won a cheesecake from the cheesecake factory once & as i was walking into the house with it (amongst other items i was carrying), someone opened the door from the other end & knocked it out of my arms... It landed upside down on my garage floor... to this day i still haven't had cheesecake from there, but would love to try it. I am a cheesecake lover & I hear theirs are the best!
A lady ran a stop light and hit the truck my first husband and 2 older kids were in. They were slightly injured, nothing serious thank goodness but our insurance company sued her insurance company and we walked away with some cash.
Back in the mid '80's I won a three wheeler on Mother's Day from JC Penny's in a drawing. I never rode it but my husband did and he would take our six year old for rides on it. I had planted a small flowering crab apple tree in our yard that spring and noticed one day that it was gone! My son piped up and said "Daddy accidentally ran over it with the three wheeler and it broke so he threw it out in the field and said not to tell you." The tree eventually grew back but the three wheeler got sold soon after. We laugh about it now but I wasn't too happy at the time.
A couple of years ago the week before Valentines Day, I called the local radio station ( you know, one of those contests where you have to be like the 10th caller or something) and I won a gift certificate to a local fast food place but also got my name put in for the grand prize drawing. They drew my name on Valentine's Day and I won a free jacuzzi suite for one night at a local motel, a dinner for two at a nice restaurant and two tickets to Star Spangled Celebration (a big country music festival held in Richland Center every June). We did use the jacuzzi suite but ended up giving away the dinner tickets and selling the SSC tickets.
We always go to the local fundraiser for Toys for Tots or Smiles For a Child as it's called here now and we win a lot of stuff on the raffle tickets...probably because we buy so many of them! We usually end up with things like bird feeders, bottles of booze, flashlights, etc. but this last time I won a new ATV helmet. I guess if I'd kept the three wheeler all this time, I might have a use for the helmet now. LOL

I've won a lot of prizes for Halloween, not much else. My husband won a trip to Lake Tahoe for 3 days. He also won other karaoke and lip synch contest prizes over the years.
I won a $1500 scholarship when I was in school a few years ago.
Can't think of anything else. I'm sure there are some little things not worth mentioning.
Honesty award from Scouts for finding a wad of cash on the floor of a bumper car when I was a kid and returning it. Stopped the cars from starting and got up to give it to the ride operator - and a Dad came running towards the car with two little ones in tow. He had just realized he lost it. Gratifying to see it go to a Dad. Didn't think more about it till the next Pack meeting when I was surprised with the honor and award.

We did win a lawsuit. My husband did anyway. It was for a work related injury. He sued one of the stores on his route for having a broken railing that was duct taped together and spray painted to match the rest. He broke his elbow and 2 ribs. The lawsuit wasn't really for the original injury, but because his elbow didn't heal properly. It can't be completely straight when he holds his arm out. Most people probably wouldn't see it unless he points it out, but it does affect some of the strength to the arm.
They put my husband in a nasty cast. It was from his wrist to his armpit and bent at a weird angle. Not completely bent up like when a person has a sling on their arm, but only partially bent. He couldn't even keep it in a sling and it must have weighed about 30 pounds. It was heavy anyway. He hated that cast so much. I felt bad for him.
This was the injury that happened 2 weeks after I had gotten laid off back in 2002. It was a very stressful time for both of us. If I can pick a year as being our worst year, that was the year. Another year I'd like to forget hahaha.

Good for you Keith for being so honest! Not a lot of kids now a days would do what you did.
That reminds me of something that happened involving my son at college last year. He found a $10 bill on the floor in the campus cafeteria and turned it in to Lost and Found. I asked him how he thought anyone was going to be able to identify that it was actually theirs? He said it didn't matter because he did what was right and that's what was important to him. I'm sure the person who lost it wouldn't even think of going to Lost and Found to see if an honest person turned it in because most college kids would have just put it in their pocket. But he felt good because he didn't keep it.
