....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Yeah, when I worked at Arby's they were fanatics about cleaning the nozzles every night, tho I don't think they ever did it regularly until the last 2 years I worked there..
When I read that report I cringed too and decided right then we'd probably just grab a bottle of soda instead.
A bit of good new though, my son works for a popular 'upper class' gas station and he said that at his store they kept a close eye on their beverage servers. I guess it just depends on how picky the management is about stuff like that.
The problem is going to be how to convince the public that their machines are clean... touchy, touchy, touchy... They'll probably just wait for it to blow over with the next crisis that comes along. In the meantime, order a bottle instead! lol
It's not just the nozzles. My husband used to work for 7-up and places don't always clean their lines. They have to clean these regularly. Same goes for beer lines. I'd think soda is worse because of all the sticky sugar.
Very true... The only good thing is that sugar does have antibacterial qualities.
Personally, I think they need to look for an answer farther than just 'Cleaning and Maintenance'; by nature human beings get lazy, no way around it. So the only answer is in design of the machine itself; more disposable parts, new designs. And I think consumer confidence will off set the cost.
But will it happen...? Who knows, lol, it depends on if it hangs in the headlines long enough, I guess.

My ex worked for the Pepsi company here in Madison (sub) for a long time & told me the same thing. He went as far as to warm me not to ever order a soda from the culvers in a certain town... but honestly that's just the one he seen, what about all the others we dont know about... ick!
My husband used to have the job of fixing and installing the lines for the soda guns. One of the things they had to do was taste test it to see if they were working properly. I remember one place hadn't used theirs in a long time and the lines were all moldy. He had some horror stories about those jobs.
One place they had to go through a dirt crawl space that was filled with all kinds of spiders. When my husband was down there the light he was using went out. All he could think of was the spiders crawling all over him while he was laying on his back. He had to yell up to the other guy to hurry up and get that light working again. He also said you could tell it had been flooded down there a some point because it was all gross looking. No thanks!

Your story gave me the creepy-crawleys. and reminds me of my computer room, dark and dingy, cold and creepy. I am getting a flashlight tomorrow!

Yuk, I've been trying to avoid this topic since I drink a large coke from McDonald's every day. (I have one in front of me right now). ...oh, but I just had to peek in here again just now and this topic is getting even more gross. I may have to rethink my coke situation.
